Charles Coker Managing Director of Dasym Media
Charles Coker currently oversees Dasym Investment Strategies’ activities in the United States and serves on the management team of Dasym’s media fund, which focuses on family-‐oriented entertainment and projects. In addition to his duties with the fund, Mr. Coker also advises Dasym’s portfolio company Exclusive Media—a leading Hollywood producer and international distributor of independent films and television programing—on its strategy in China. Mr. Coker is also currently executive producing two Sino-‐foreign co-‐productions—John Woo’s Flying Tigers and Jackie Chan’s Skiptrace. Previously, Mr. Coker practiced law in Shanghai and Los Angeles with leading international law firms. In this capacity, Mr. Coker advised top entertainment and media companies, as well as independent producers, on their strategy and operations in China, including Sino-‐foreign co-‐productions. Mr. Coker also advised clients on private equity fund and fund formation issues, both with respect to U.S.-‐based funds and foreign-‐invested RMB funds in China. In addition, Mr. Coker has authored numerous articles and been a guest speaker on the topic of foreign-‐invested RMB funds for The China Business Review, the China Venture Capital Association and the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Coker was a member of the music faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to his duties at UCLA, Mr. Coker was active in the motion picture and music recording industry. He has performed on numerous film scores with such prominent composers as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, James Horner, Elmer Bernstein, Michael Kamin and James Newton Howard. Mr. Coker has also recorded with a wide range of notable musical artists including Prince, Harry Connick Jr., Kenny G and Julie Andrews.
