ETHOS: this is the tricky persuasive appeal. • With ETHOS, you appeal to your audience by proving

that you are credible (believable/trustworthy).

• Sometimes, we cite experts in the field when we are not experts ourselves.

• But for this speech, you want to really prove to your audience that YOU are the expert. As a result, you will actually go out and DO SOMETHING related to your issue.

• Some options are as follows: conduct a survey; interview an expert; volunteer time for a related organization

Fitch the Homeless

In 2013, a twenty-six-year-old U.S.C. graduate named Greg Karber read a story that inflamed his sense of opportunity. The article dredged up a seven-year-old interview with Mike Jeffries, the sixty-eight-year-old, eccentric C.E.O. of Abercrombie & Fitch, rehearsing the principles that made Abercrombie one of the most successful—and most hated—brands in retail history.

How does Greg Karber establish ETHOS in his argument?
