ThePeraltaCommunityCollegeDistrictwasfoundedin1964,andservessixcitiesintheEastBayArea,includingAlbany,Alameda,Berkeley,Emeryville,Oakland,andPiedmont.ThecollegesareBerkeleyCityCollege,CollegeofAlameda,LaneyCollege,andMerrittCollege.TheDistricthasareputationfordevelopingeffectiveapproachestoservingthevariedinterestsandneedsofitsvibrantcommunity.TheDistrictservesover29,000students,andisoneofthetopcommunitycollegedistrictsinCaliforniaintransferringstudentsintotheUCsystem.CurrentlytheDistricthasabout850full-timeemployeesandover1,250part-timefacultyandpart-timestaff.

• Minimumoffiveyearsdemonstratedexperienceasasuccessfulsenioradministrator.

• Postsecondaryteachingexperience,preferablyincommunitycolleges.

• Experienceinsharedgovernanceanddemonstratedcollectivebargainingexperiencewithinacollegeenvironment.

• Knowledgeoftheroleofcommunitycollegesineconomicdevelopment.

• EarnedDoctoratestronglypreferred.

• Inadditiontohavingexperiencewithplanning,developmentandtheconstructionofeducationalfacilities,demonstrateanunderstandingofandcommitmenttobondfinancingprogramsandtheirroleinsuccessfullyfulfillingthedistrict’smulti-yearfacilitiesmasterplan

• Enhancedistrictsuccessthroughstrongfinancialandin-kindsupportforentrepreneurialprograms,pursuitofgrantsandpartnerships,andaggressivefundraisingforthePeraltaDistrictFoundation

• StrengthenthePeraltanameandtheprestigeandserviceofourfourcollegesthroughvigorouscommunityinvolvementwithlocalorganizations,groupsandactivities

The Position

TheChancellorofthePeraltaCommunityCollegeDistrictisresponsibleforalloperationsofthedistrict’sfourcollegesandassuresthatthecollegesareadministeredinaccordancewithfederalandCaliforniaregulationsandthepoliciesadoptedbytheseven-memberBoardofTrustees.TheChancellorprovidesleadershipandadvocacyinkeepingwiththedistrict’smissionofsupportingstudentaccessandsuccess.

Opportunities, Issues and Challenges

In leading Peralta CCD the next chancellor will:

• ArticulateavisionforthefutureofthePeraltaDistrictinaclearandcompellingmannerandinspireanddirectstafftomakethevisionareality

• WorkinconcertwiththePeraltaBoardofTrusteestoachievedefinedfinancialgoalsandmaintainfinancialstabilitythroughstrongoversight,collaborativebudgetdevelopmentandstrictadherencetosoundbudgetpolicy,proceduresandtimelines

• Developalternativestrategiesandsourcesoffundingtosupporttheoutstandingprogramsandservicesofthedistrict

• Increaserelianceondatadriveninformationinmakinginformeddecisionsatalllevelsofgovernance

• Identifyinnovativeopportunitiesforadvancingtheuseoftechnologyintheareasofteaching,learning,assessment,studentservicesandadministrativesystems

• Respondtochangingdemographicswithinthecommunityandensurethatdistrictprogramsandservicesarecomparableto,andreflectiveofthecurrentneedsoftheservicearea

• Aggressivelyadvocateforthedistrictwiththestatelegislature,aswellaslocalandfederalgovernmentsandagencies

• Beresponsibleforensuringthatboardpolicies,applicablebargainingagreementsandstateandfederaleducationstatutesareconsistentlyadheredtointhedistrictbyholdingaccountablethoseresponsiblefortheirimplementation

• Becommittedtoadistrictwidecurriculumthataddressesofcivicengagementandjusticeissues

• Recruitandretaintalentedanddiversefaculty,staffandadministratorswhoarereflectiveofthedistrict’sserviceareaandprovidethemwiththeopportunitytoachievehighstandardsofperformanceandtosucceed

• Advocateformaximumparticipationinactivitiesandpartnershipsthatwillcontinuetostrengthenthedistrict’simage,reputationandcommunityrelationsbydevelopingormaintainingrelationshipswithlocaleducational,civicandbusinessinterests

• Fostermutualrespectanddemocraticvalues,whichhavehistoricallycreatedauniqueespritdecorpsamongthestudents,facultyandstaffofthePeraltaDistrict

• Strengthenmanagementsystemsforsounddecision-making,effectivepolicyimplementationandequitableresourceallocationamongthedistrict’sprogramsandservices

• Provideleadershipintheintegrationoftheprinciplesofenvironmentalsustainabilitythroughoutallaspectsofthedistrictfromoureducationalmissiontothemanagementofourphysicalplantandpurchasing

• AppreciateandrespecttherichdiversityofculturesandperspectivespresentinthecommunitiesofthePeraltaDistrict,andtakeleadershiptoachievesocialclass,racialandgenderequitythatpromotestostudentsuccess

The next Peralta CCD chancellor shall have a strong, documented leadership and management style:

• Thatatitscoreisbasedonethicalprinciplesthatvalueintegrity,honesty,directness,humilityandflexibilityinalldistrictmatters

• Thatincludesstrongskillsinrecruitingandappointingoutstandingstaff,delegatingtothemresponsibilityforaccomplishingtheworkofthedistrict,andevaluatingtheirperformanceinachievingclearlydefined,measurablegoals

• Thatisgoaloriented,employsthespecializedskillsrequiredtoleadacomplexorganizationsuchasamulticollegedistrict,createsacultureofaccountabilityanddemonstratestheabilitytoanalyzeandimplementappropriateresponsestocomplexissues

• Thatdemonstratesanappreciationoftheuniquemissionofthecomprehensivecommunitycollegeasagatewaytolearningopentoallresidentsofthedistrict

• ThatdemonstratescommitmenttothecollectivebargainingprocessforallemployeegroupsasmandatedfortheCaliforniaCommunityColleges

• Thatdemonstratessuccesswithfulfillingaccreditationstandardsandcompliancedemands
