CLIMIT STATUS – PORTFOLIO
• Broad and relevant technology portfolio • Research institutes and industry • Few pre-commercial project
Page 7
EXAMPLE 1 R&D&D PORTFOLIO CLIMIT PROGRAMME SOLVIT
• Advantage of 20+ years absorption technology research at SINTEF/NTNU
• Merged with Aker experience in technology development and deployment
• Multi-scale approach to solvent development • Dedicated tests at the most appropriate level
Molecular simulations Lab/pilot tests New full height pilot plant in Trondheim
Mobile Test Unit Large demo/full scale
Page 8
EXAMPLE 2 R&D&D PORTFOLIO CLIMIT PROGRAMME CO2 FIELD LABORATORY
• Objective: Controlled surface migration experiments:
– Determine the sensitivity of monitoring systems
– Test & calibrate migration models
– Asses monitoring systems
– Inform public about injection of CO2
Page 9
KEY LEARNINGS: TECHNOLOGY STATUS AND GAP
• Third party evaluation - first six years of the CLIMIT programme: – Considerable knowledge development – Promising research for the next generation technology
• Carbon capture: no obvious technology winner – CLIMIT will emphasize innovation in a broad technology portfolio in
the contribution to future costs reduction solutions • Transport and Storage: more pilots necessary to demonstrate safe
storage • R&D is a continuous and underlying activity necessary for the basic
insight in the processes and contribution to groundbreaking technologies in the future

FULL-SCALE CCS AT CHP MONGSTAD PLANNING PROCESS
• One of the first full scale projects: important part of post-comb. technology development – Scaling, operating efficiency, reduced costs and risks
• International competition: 5 technology supplies and 3 technologies • Technology qualification programme (TQP)
– TQP capture technology – TQP amine programme (HSE effects of amine, closing knowledge gap) – Basis for concept selection 2014
• FEED phase – New competition open for all qualified technology suppliers – Basis for investment decision 2016
Page 14
• Five technology suppliers have been selected to participate in the technology qualification programme – Amine technologies:
• Aker Clean Carbon, • Mitsubishi, • Powerspan /Huaneng Clean
Research Institute – Chilled ammonia technology:
• Alstom – Amino acid salt technology:
• Siemens

CO2 TRANSPORT & STORAGE NORWAY
• Transport: Pipeline • Geological storage: Offshore – saline aquifers • Process for establishing CO2 Transport & storage:
− Potential storage locations nominated − Announcement of areas − Establish industrial partnerships
(similar to the petroleum industry)

TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT MATURITY AND POTENTIAL
Source: McKinsey report “CCS – Assessing the economics”; team analysis – adapeted by Gassnova SF
Several projects are operational (e.g., Weyburn (Canada)). EU has limited EOR potential
US has existing CO2 pipeline network of more than 5000 kilometers
Sleipner (Norway) field has been operational for around 10 years
First projects are coming online now
