What is MAHA MUN?

Maharashtra Model United Nations

A student led simulation of United Nations

Participants play role of delegates from different countries and

attempt to solve real global issues with policy and perspective of the

assigned country

Its all about international diplomacy, International relationships and

international issues

Participants are encouraged to voice their opinion & provide

solutions to global issues while at the same balancing national issues.

Faculty and Delegates are encouraged to submit research papers

for the compendium to be released post event. (optional)

What Really Happens at MUN?

Each Delegate represents a country

Delegates are assigned to a committee

Each committee has specific topics

Delegates have to prepare on their topics;

Based on their country’s stand; they take a for or an against position

Each delegate may be given a chance to speak / present paper /

position paper on the topic

For Three / Five Minutes

And further 3 to 5 minutes may be given for Q&A

It is not compulsory for every delegate to present

FAQs

1. Is it compulsory for every delegate to present a paper? a) No, it is optional.

2. Can parents come to see the event?a) Yes, they can come as observers by paying the requisite fee.b) Observers cannot present or intervene at the event. c) Working Professionals can attend as a corporate advisor

3. Is it compulsory for every delegate to be accompanied by a faculty advisor?

a) Delegate below the age of 18 has to be accompanied by anyone: Parent / Guardian (Observer), Faculty advisor or Corporate advisor.

4. I am a professor / academician, how do I participate?a) Academicians can participate as Faculty advisors.b) It is recommended that they bring a team of student delegates and train /

manage themc) It is also recommended that Faculty advisors should submit or present a paper

in personal capacity.

FAQs continued

5. Can I submit a research paper in absentia? Will it be a partof the compendium to be released post event? Yes, Professors, Academicians and Research scholars may submit a

research paper in absentia. The cost towards such submission in absentia isINR. 1000/-

If a professor is attending the event then he / she need not pay this cost. Itis covered in the event fee of INR 3500/-

6. Please note; All submitted papers are property of the organizers Organizers may decide not to publish certain papers; such decision of the

organizers is final and binding and no queries will be entertained. Papers submitted for the compendium have to be less than four A4 size

papers. Papers submitted have to be related to a topic approved for the MAHA

MUN event.

7. I work for an NGO, How do I participate? You may attend as a Corporate Advisor or Observer

You may submit a research paper which will be included in the compendium tobe released at the award function

8. I am a member of a Youth club / wing / Rotaract, But I am astudent, how do I participate? Since you are a student, you may attend as a delegate.

9. I am a working professional / Entrepreneur, how do I participate? You may attend as a Corporate Advisor or Observer

You may submit a research paper which will be included in the compendium tobe released at the award function

Selecting a Committee and Topic

Delegates can list their preference for 3 committees (final

decision will be made by Selection committee)

Delegates may select one or two topics to present a paper on.

Delegates are requested to read on other topics also, this will

help improve participation. They need to form an opinion on

other topics since other delegates may present on those topics

and you will have to vote for or against.

Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors are requested to

Form a team of 2 to 10 students from their institute and lead the

delegation.

In case your institute does not support the same, we will provide

you an opportunity to manage delegations at the venue.

Guide and help delegates form an opinion on topics based on

country they represent and global requirements.

Faculty advisors are further requested to abstain from active

debates and prompt their students at scheduled times.

event

A Compendium of research papers / position papers will be releasedat the Felicitation & Community Leader Awards function scheduled 3months after the event. The Felicitation event will be held in Mumbai

This book will also contain highlights of the event with photographs,award winners, participating universities, colleges, schools, institutes,NGOs and corporates.

Any Faculty advisor / corporate advisor may submit papers

Fees in absentia are INR 1,000/- Any professor / academician across any university may submit papers.

Fees for Faculty / corporate advisors present at the event is nil/-since this is covered in their event fees (INR 3,500/- or INR 5,000/-)
