13. Graphic User Interface Graphic User Interface (GUI) components in MicroStation include tool boxes, task menus, popup menus and the menubar. Administrators will first create custom menu items in tool boxes. Tool box items can call any MicroStation command or add-in that can be started via a key-in. The toolbox items can also have an associated Element Template to automatically set the symbology attributes. Once the tool box items are configured entire toolboxes or individual tools may be copied to other GUI components.
Managing Graphic User Interfaces Storage of toolboxes and other GUI components has changed from previous versions of MicroStation. All GUI components are stored in dgn libraries which can be shared in a standard workspace configuration.
Workspace Configuration Variables • MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST – Search path for DGN libraries containing
graphic user interfaces.
Customize Dialog The Customize dialog is the interface for creating GUI components. It is displayed by selecting Workspace > Customize from the MicroStation menubar.
GUI components can only be added in the active dgn library file. Other dgn libraries containing menu items found in the active workspace configuration will also be listed. Toolboxes and individual tool items may be copied from other dgn libraries into the active dgn library.

The ShowHide Test setting allows for selecting a Named Expression to evaluate to determine if the tool will be shown.
Tool Icons Icons for tool buttons can be loaded into and stored in the dgn library file using the Icons tab. Windows .bmp and .ico files can be imported as well as icons stored in other resource files. Icons can also be referenced from other MicroStation resource files.
