Butadiene Approximately 95% of butadiene on the market is derived from crude.
Butadiene is a byproduct of ethylene/olefin steam cracking and
isolated using a polar solvent such as acetonitrile, NMP, or DMF.
Downstream materials of Butadiene include:
1) Polymers
a) Tetrahydrofuran (THF)
i) Spandex
b) Polybutadiene
i) Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
(1) Light weight polymer used in injection molded and
extruded materials
ii) Acrylonitrile Butadiene (NBR)
(1) Automotive gaskets, hoses, seals, etc.…
(2) Nitrile Gloves
iii) Styrene Butadiene (SBR)
(1) Car Tires
iv) Adiponitrile
(1) Nylon
(a) ESD Bags
(b) Gloves
(c) Filters
c) Butanediol
