Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 1:40-45 "He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere." Nothing could stop the crowds from gathering. Men, women, and children traveled from near and far--everywhere--to find Jesus. Word had spread quickly about the miraculous healing of the leprous man. And people wanted to know what it was all about. Yes, he had the power to cure illnesses and drive out demons. But more than that, he had the power to change hearts. His words of compassion and mercy, and the actions that backed them up, must have caused many a conver s ion dur ing those encounters in the deserted places.
Although we don't have the
opportunity to see him in person,
we do have the chance to search
for Jesus and to find him.
Sometimes, he may seem remote.
Maybe we don't automatically feel
his presence. Perhaps, when times
are tough, we wonder where he is
hiding. But when we persevere in
our journey by praying, reading
the Bible, and receiving the
sacraments, we too can find the
Lord. And as we bring our needs
to him, Jesus will be "moved with pity" for us as well and will
extend to us the healing love that
has transformed so many hearts
throughout Christian history.

FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER
By now you have received your Annual Catholic Appeal
mailing. If you have not, the materials are located in the
pews, the side shelves and in the vestibule. This appeal
is very important to our parish. We are assigned a goal
amount by the Diocese, which is $62,000, the same as
last year. If we fail to meet our goal, then we must make
up the shortfall from our operating budget. All the
monies over our goal are retained by the parish. This is
important because last year we exceeded our goal by
$20,623 which went into the Fire Restoration Fund.
With a similar amount this year, we will be ending the
Fire Restoration Fund. The envelopes for that fund will
no longer be included in your envelope mailings.
If you are making a one-time contribution to the ACA,
please make the check payable to The Diocese of San Die-
go. If you are make an online donation directly to the
Diocese, take a moment and fill out a card telling us the
amount so we can account for it locally.
As mentioned in a prior bulletin, we will be having a
report on the closing of the Fire Fund in the coming
weeks.
Thank you for your continued generosity.

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and; fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you
The priests dearest to me; The priest who baptized me;
The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way
(especially……………..….) O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,
And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity,
Amen

Dear Santa Sophia Parishioners: February 5th, 2015 As you know, in mid-November 2014, I granted the request of your pastor Father Jacob Bertrand for a temporary leave of absence from active priestly ministry in order to address issues of personal growth and development. I am happy to let you know that Father Jacob is doing well in his program, which is expected to last until at least the end of May 2015. He continues to be grateful for your support through prayer during this time and he is looking forward to a return to priestly ministry after completion of the program. I am grateful to Father Timothy Deutsch for accepting my invitation to serve as administrator of the parish on an interim basis. Father Timothy will conclude his assignment at Santa Sophia Parish no later than June 30th, 2015. Once again, thank you for your prayers for Father Jacob. Be assured of my continuing prayers for your faith community. Sincerely yours in Christ,
