AS I look out over the NewsMail newsroom and see facesfresh from university at their desks, ready for thechallenge the workforce brings; I can respect the journeythat each of you graduates have been on and feelconfident that you have been given the tools to take thisnext step.
Just as so many before you, here at the NewsMail wehave shared in your triumphs and the different paths youhave been on to get to your final destination in this stageof your life – graduation.
The team here at the NewsMail wishes all featured inour pages today, the faces of our future, the very best infulfilling their potential.
We recognise the hard work and commitment it hastaken to finish Year 12.
This is a milestone moment in itself and deservesrecognition.
Thankfully the Bundaberg/Wide Bay region stands outfor its educational opportunities whether your talents liein the academic field, sporting or trades.
Through my role as NewsMail editor I am lucky enough to seeevery day so many memorable milestones being achieved by ourlocal youth and it gives me confidence in the future of our region.
As American philosopher and educator John Dewey once said,"education is not preparation for life, education is life itself"because while a formal education can make all the difference towhere you end up in life, we can never discredit the general lifeeducation we receive every day.
I encourage you all to never stop learning, take in all the worldhas to offer you and embrace the opportunities that arepresented to you on a regular basis.
Our modern world may be fast paced but there is a place in itsomewhere for everyone.
While personally my place has been embracing my love of thewritten word and sharing the stories of the community with the
world, for you all it may be different, for that is yourown journey.
Until you take that next step in the comingmonths, take a moment to catch your breath andreflect on all you have achieved thus far; if you arestepping outside the regionfor your educationalopportunities, look aroundand remember all the thingsyou enjoyed about your timehere.
But, overall, good luck.

CELEBRATING OUR GRADUATES BUNDABERG AND DISTRICTS
WHILE my working life has definitely been a journey; onewhich has taken many different twists and turns, there isone thing that I will never question the value of and thatis education.
Even in my current role as Regional General Managerfor NewsCorp my education continues as we, the peoplebehind the pages, strive to find new ways to do thingsbetter, more efficiently and provide greater access forthose throughout the world.
As Malcolm X once said, “education is the passport tothe future, for tomorrow belongs to those who preparefor it today”.
A quality education is something that you will havewith you for the rest of your life and you will call uponmany times whether furthering your education in acertain area or simply drawing on that knowledge ineveryday living.
Having started the next step in my life studying a BSCat Griffith University in 1984 before working for AustralianLaboratory Services for 10 years, I can assure you thedecisions you make about your future now may changeas your life does.
As you venture into the world, you will have newexperiences, meet new people and discover new places, but it is always beneficial to have that place to start tomake it easier to be happy with your final destination.
Personally, while I loved nothing more than my
laboratory work and the fact that it took me to laboratories inQueensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australiaas well as New Zealand and Indonesia; since I have steppedback into the world of newspapers in 2012 I haven’t lookedback.
I have embraced an industry that has captivated fourgenerations of my family and I continue to be enthused bythe strong relationships I have built in the community throughmy role and the next generation that I am able to motivate.
Despite the growth in modern technology, newspaperscontinue to be at the centre of a community and can touchus all through sharing the joys, triumphs and even sadnessthat happen around us every day.
This is a wonderful region and I am so proud to be a partof it.
Embrace this first step into your future life with pride, never forgetting what you have achieved over your primaryand high school years and thewonderful memories you have nodoubt shared with many others.
Congratulations.

CELEBRATING OUR GRADUATES BUNDABERG AND DISTRICTS
CONGRATULATIONS graduates!Graduation is a day to celebrate with your families
and friends. And it’s the day you’ve been waiting for since you
entered your prep year, 13 long years ago.For some of you, it’s waiting to get out of school
and get on with your life. For others, finishing highschool is just the next step in your education.
You’re headed to a university, a tertiary college, apprenticeship training – to the daunting task ofpreparing for the career you want to pursue.
Would it surprise you to know that five to sevencareer changes in a lifetime is the new average forAustralian workers willing to update their qualificationsand switch careers?
So the decision you make about your next fewyears may be just the start of a lifetime of change, challenge and learning.
It’s no secret that a good education has the powerto change a life.
Your graduation also represents an educationsystem that ensures that all young people here inBundaberg and the Burnett and across our nation, even the neediest, have access to the same learningopportunities that have shaped you and me: a firstrate education; an exposure to the diverse beliefs andtraditions that drive an ever more interdependent andcomplex world, and a chance to experience the joy oflearning.
Take those experiences with you.Cherish the relationships you have built at school
and with your teachers and mentors. And do well wherever you go and in whatever you
do.Congratulations again to each of you and may you
all succeed in the years ahead.
Stephen Bennett MPMember for Burnett
Take high schoolexperiences withyou on journeyahead
CONGRATULATIONS on your impending graduation. This is a challenging, but exciting time to be
completing school. The future requires all of us to be adaptable and
prepared. My message to the graduating classes of 2019 is
simple: you can do anything if you’re willing to workhard.
Who knows where it might lead you?Now is a time to reflect on the help you’ve had
throughout your time at school. At the heart of a successful school is a group of
passionate, dedicated teachers and staff who inspireand encourage their students to try their best everyday.
And let’s not forget about your family who haveprovided support and guidance at home.
Good luck as you make the transition from schooland I wish you every success in your futureendeavours.
Keith PittFederal Member For Hinkler
The future iswell worth theeffort
CONGRATULATIONS are certainly in order for thehundreds of students across the Bundaberg Regionfinalising their secondary schooling with graduationceremonies.
Graduation, while it marks the end of a period ofschooling, is simply the commencement of new andexciting challenges in life.
I am sure it is with a certain amount of trepidationthat many students exit the familiar surrounds of theirclassrooms for the final time. Say farewell to theteachers and friends who have been such a part oftheir life through these years of education.
While many will progress to higher education, others will seek involvement in the workforce.
Making it through 12 years of education is no smallfeat. It has been a period in your lives to gainknowledge, to gain the social skills that only interactingwith other people can bring and to gain a sense ofidentity that shapes you as individuals.
As a community, we welcome your emergence fromthe classroom into what is now your future roles asyoung people with vision, with aspirations, withdreams and with the ability to contribute to thecommunity around you.
Among your ranks are our leaders of tomorrow andwe congratulate you on your achievements. We alsoacknowledge the families, friends and teachers thathave played an integral role in helping you on yourjourney.
Congratulations and sincere wishes for happinessand a future where your goals are realised.

CELEBRATING OUR GRADUATES BUNDABERG AND DISTRICTS
Educationfor me ismore thanwhat islearnt intheclassroom. Ihave experiencedgrowthacademically andpersonally. My goal this year was to challengemyself outside of my comfort zone by adoptingan, “I can” attitude and embracing the manyopportunities available to me. I believe thatthrough these experiences, both challenging andrewarding, my self-confidence has grown. I amincredibly grateful to both staff and student bodyof Bundaberg State High School who have hadfaith in my abilities to undertake tasks required ofa school leader. I have enjoyed this opportunityimmensely. I am looking forward to the nextchapter in my life, wherever that may lead me.Bundaberg State High School has provided manyopportunities in regard to post-school study andcareer options, for it is here we lay thefoundations for our future. I will always reflectfondly on my time at Bundaberg State High andthe connections I have made.
Paris Bell2019 School Captain
Bundaberg State HighSchool has provided me theopportunity to participateand compete in a widerange of sports. The variety ofsports available is amazing which allowsstudents to participate, connect and interactwith others. As a result of the sports offeredat Bundaberg State High School, I was giventhe opportunity to travel throughout myhigh school years. The passionate support provided by staff and coaches ofBundaberg State High is outstanding and for that I will be forever grateful.Bundaberg State High School has a wonderful support system for allstudents ranging from afterschool preparation to exam stress. Due to theextensive encouragement and help from Bundaberg State High, I know I amfully prepared to achieve my goals and aspirations for the future. On 13January, 2020, my career begins in the Australian Navy and it is through theongoing support from Bundaberg State High that I am ready to start thisnew chapter in my life. I am beyond grateful for Bundaberg State HighSchools’ contributions in education, sport and extracurricular activities. So,thank you Bundaberg State High School, for being some of the most groanworthy years of my life but also the most beneficial ones.
Tayla Venz2019 School Captain
After 13years ofwalkingthrougha schoolgate, wewill nolongerenteras astudent. In that time, we have changed, developed and grown into completely differentpeople, even our entire body has been replacedwith different cells (something I learnt inbiology). Being an Indigenous CommunityLeader within Bundaberg State High School, Ihave been given the opportunity to learn, experience and appreciate more of my culture. Ihave been privileged to lead our fellowIndigenous students into a culturally rich schoolenvironment which is something I will forevercherish in my life. Attending Bundaberg StateHigh School has provided me with the rightskills and knowledge to face new hardships, challenges that life may throw my way.Something that will always stay with me is theconnections I have made, with staff, communitymembers and of course my fellow student ofBundaberg State High. I graduate seniorschooling knowing there is always someonewilling to help, basic algebra and how to readand write. Bundaberg State High School’s newLink and Launch program, the first of its type inQueensland, reinforces the knowledge that weare not alone – our school will follow ourjourney for the next three years to support andprovide guidance with any post schoolemployment and study needs that we mayhave. We will be connected to the community, local businesses and organisations to ensure wehave every opportunity for a successfulpost-school life. Thank you Bundaberg High formaking a difference!
Dustin Budda-Deen2019 School Captain
I was fortunate that Bundy High offered me a wealth ofopportunities. I can’t believe my growth as a result of the depth in curriculum opportunities Ihave been privileged to receive over the last couple of years particularly, as I moved from junior intosenior schooling. Over the course of the past 13 months, I have had the privilege to travelinternationally not once, or twice, but four times, to three different countries. I have visited Chinatwice to play in an orchestra ensemble, and travelled to Japan. Through the opportunities the schoolhas offered me, I have been able to fully immerse myself in these wonderful cultural experiences –ones that have cultivated me. My most memorable experience was when I travelled to the UnitedStates of America last year for the International Space Settlement Design Challenge held at NASA’sKennedy Space Center, an opportunity only possible through a school curriculum activity. Thisexperience has helped ready myself for the global career market through networking with other international students and engineers,as well as outlining the respective occupation (engineering) I am wanting to pursue and what it will envelop. These opportunities werenot only possible through the diverse scope of extra-curricular activities available for me, but through the dedication of Bundy High’samazing staff. My experience – seize the opportunities presented and you may not know what is achievable.
