1997 - 2015

In 1997 Bruni Glass decided to invite some European universities to participate to a challenge and create new packaging shapes in line with the beginning of a new era: this is how “Progetto Millennio” (Millennium Project) was born, addressed to young design students for bottles and jars manufac-tured with mechanical hollow glass technology.

Progetto Millennio was enthusiastically welcomed and after it was opened to many other schools and to other sectors, it became a permanent international contest renamed in 2013 as: “Bruni Glass Design Award”.

During the contest students work with their teachers and with the technical staff of Bruni Glass, in order to find a meeting point between their fresh creative approach and the requirements of real production thus finding brilliant and dynamic solutions. This year more than 740 draft projects have been submitted, but only 20 proposals have been selected during four workshops sessions and will get to the final judgment by the public.

A showcase for young designers Bruni Glass Design Award is a workshop-contest which lasts 8 months and transforms young designers’ aspirations into their first real working opportunity: a great training experience financed by Bruni Glass for the entire educational period. At the end of the workshop 20 projects are selected: they are registered and de-posited by Bruni Glass and they will be submitted to the judgment of the pubic during important exhibitions after which they will be finally manufactured and launched on the market. All finalists re-ceive a flat remuneration for their project and a supplementary variable fee based on possible sales.

Select the shape of the future Bruni Glass rewards one of the finalist projects with a final prize according to the preferences expressed by the public. An internet voting reserved to business dealers will be coupled with an open free voting at Bruni Glass booth at Expo Milano 2015 and during Milan International Exhibition of Oenology and Bottling Machines (SIMEI). The 20 selected models will be displayed and submitted to the judgment together with their relevant graphic projects: your vote will contribute to make young students’ dreams come true and perhaps a new great designer for tomorrow will be found.

Bruni Glass Design Award has been conceived as the crossroad between two entities that get together very rarely: univer-sities and companies. Bruni Glass has succeeded in bringing them together, in creating a contact between inexperienced students and expert technicians. A winning cooperation which has been confirmed year after year by the success of this initiative and by the projects themselves that have been often launched on the market. The contest is open to students who attend the highest recognized Art and Design European universities.

6 universities have participated in the last edition of Bruni Glass Design Award: the popular IED Madrid, the Politecnico di Milano, where the Faculty of Design is one of the most productive hotbed of Italian excellence, the University of the Arts of London, very famous for its international approach, the University of Reims, specialized in innovative packaging devel-opment, and two different German schools, the University of Münster, one of the greatest schools of Applied Sciences in Germany, and the University of Art and Design of Halle.

The Istituto Europeo di Design has always followed the education of designers in Italy, Spain and Brasil from 1966. In 1994 the opening of the Madrid location marked the beginning of an expansion process outside Italy of IED, combined with an infinite dialogue with a city which immediately and enthusiastically welcomed the school. The architectural tradition of Ventura Rodrìguez is combined with modern trends of innovative designs according to a very basic principle: quality, avant-garde education, a direct relationship with the business world and a humanistic background where culture is perceived as an identity symbol.

Central Saint Martins is probably the most famous of all seven London based art and design colleges owned by the London Institute. In the last years, both the range and reputation of the course have been expanded and strong links have been forged not only with industry, consultants and sponsors, but also internally in order to create a new dialogue between the Fashion and Product Design departments. With students from over 35 different nationalities it was opportune to better utilize the fertile “melting pot” and translate this into design products for the international consumer.

The University Degree in Industrial Design was started for the first time in Italy at the Politecnico in Milan in 1993. The Politecnico has always been an innovative educational centre, a crossroad of different cultures which have in common basic studies characterized by creativity and by the analysis of problems linked to shapes together with technical, scientific and engineering issues. The University Degree in Industrial Design - which in the year 2000 has become the Faculty of Design - is characterized by the endless need to experience new development strategies which fully comply with the real market requirements and with the needs of the contemporary society as well. The Faculty of Design in Milan is today the most established international university in terms of number of teachers and students.

Burg Giebichenstein - the University of Art and Design Halle - takes its name from the old castle where the original campus was first located. Found-ed in 1915 as a school of arts and crafts dedicated to the “Werkstatt” principle, its profile was formed by the legacy of the “Deutscher Werkbund”.A strong competition between the Bauhaus at Weimar/Dessau and the more craft-centered Burg studios has characterized the last twenty years of the last century. Consequently, the hallmarks of the school have been: craft tradition, individual artistic work, industrial and small scale production, as well as architecture related art and design. Since 1958 the school has been recognized as an institute of higher education. Halle developed into a leading centre of industrial design education and related research activities in East Germany - in the same way the applied art courses gained international reputation.

Founded in 1966, the Institute of Technology (IUT) of Reims-Châlons-Charleville is part of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. The school has 3 locations with 2,600 students in science and technology (D.U.T, year 1 and 2), 14 professional degrees (Licence Professionnelle, year 3, equiv. BSc.) and work-study programs. The Packaging Science Department opened in 2000 with a two-year degree in Packaging (DUT GCE). In 2005 the department proposed a pro-fessional degree in Industrial Design applied to Packaging (equiv. BSc. - year 3) aimed at training students who want to be future packaging designers able to develop new packaging.
