Submission of Entries

Design Submission
• Two A1 layout panels files (JPEG file only, physical panels not required)• Design statement in both Traditional Chinese and English (500 words each, printed in A4 and in Microsoft Word & PDF format)• A “fly‐through” animation or other multi‐media files such as animated slides in powerpoint or video montages, in around 1 min
(in pptx/ mp4/ mov/ mkv/ mksd/ mka/ mks format)• 5 key perspectives or images in JPEG

Background and Objectives of the Design CompetitionThe Invigorating Island South initiativeannounced in the 2020 Policy Addressaims to develop the Southern Districtinto a place full of vibrancy, vigour andvelocity for people to work, live,explore new ideas and have fun.
While Aberdeen Country Park is closeto Wong Chuk Hang (WCH), there is nodirect connection allowing easy accessto this scenic recreational outlet.
The competition is to gather innovativeideas for creating a Green Linkconnecting MTR WCH Station andAberdeen Country Park through aseries of attractive sitting‐out areasand pedestrian facilities.

Site 1: Nam Long Shan Sitting‐out Area (SOA)
Potential Enhancement Works:• Re‐arrangement of sitting and planter layout• Visual screening• Re‐paving of the SOA• Paint works for soffit and pier of footbridge• Design proposal for lighting • Way‐finding/signage system for Green LinkKey Requirements:• Min. coverage of total greenery areas: 20%• Min. coverage of at‐grade greenery areas: 10% • Height restriction: max. 10.5m above mean formation level• Max. built‐over area: 6%• Installations/artwork/painting works should not adversely
affect highway structures• Tree planting close to elevated walkway, landscape planting

• Installations should not adversely affect maintenance, structural integrity and drainage facilities of highway structures, underground utilities and public lighting
• Any artwork/painting works should not adversely affect waterproof function and cleansing of highway structures

Site 5: Proposed Walking Trial
Potential Enhancement Works:• Design for a walking trail to connect with Aberdeen Nature Trail• Design walking trail entrance at a built‐out of pavement• Propose a vertical connection from Yip Hing Street to an existing catchwater• Viewing platforms at stair landing• Design railing along the walking trail (excluding catchwater section)• Way‐finding/signage system for Green LinkKey Requirements:• Design for the walking trail should be raw and minimal, and natural materials
should be used as far as practicable • Gradient of the walking trail should generally follow the existing topography
to avoid disturbance to man‐made slopes and natural terrain, and to minimize site clearance, tree felling and site formation works
• Cutting of slopes and retaining structures should be avoided• Minimise any new structures with support on the slopes

Site 5: Proposed Walking Trial (cont’d)
Key Requirements:• Walking trail to generally follow the alignment of existing
maintenance access along man‐made slopes and catchwater; maintenance access to be widened to 1.2m, where feasible
• Section in‐between (T6 in Annex 5) to be built on natural slope should be 1.2m wide with railing
• For steeper sections, stairs with railing may be proposed • Proposed railing design should include a typical design each for
the level, ramp, and staircase sections• Due consideration to public safety in the design• Due consideration to WSD’s operation and maintenance needs
for catchwater section; the catchwater should not be covered• Existing slope drains should be retained• Any soft landscaping proposed along the walking trail should be
of self‐sustainable nature, blend in with the natural environment and integrate with native plants 19

Total budget: HK$ 20.4M (at Sept 2021 price level)
Breakdown:
• $15.2M for sitting‐out areas and possible artworks;
• $3.5M for walking trail and associated signage; and
• $1.7M on public footpaths, staircases, railings and signage.

Implementation of the 1st Prize Winning Entry
The Government intends to adopt the design ideas andconcepts of the 1st Prize Winning Entry with or withoutmodifications for the design and implementation of theGreen Link.
Consideration may be given to integrating suitable parts orelements from the design ideas of other Winning Entries.
The Government may invite the Winner (the Team Leader)to participate in the design and implementation of theGreen Link (excluding the walking trail, alley and staircases)in form of a separate design advisory service in Q2 2022.
