A lifetime of effective leadership.

Brad Sherman and his wife Lisa and theirthree daughters at a local Valley park.

Brad Sherman has a long history of public service and effective leadership. He grew

up in Southern California and graduated from UCLA and Harvard Law School. He

worked in the private sector for 15 years as a CPA and tax law specialist for middle

income taxpayers and small businesses.

Brad served on the Board of Directors for California Common Cause from 1984 to

1989, working to reform state campaign finance laws.

In 1990 Brad was elected to the State Board of Equalization where he fought to make

tax laws fair for middle class families, save the renters’ tax credit, repeal the unfair

“Snack Tax” and slam shut corporate tax loopholes.

Since 1997 Brad has served as a representative for the San Fernando Valley in the

United States Congress. He has developed a reputation as a strong advocate for fiscal

responsibility, protecting Medicare and Social Security, policies to expand U.S. exports

and create local jobs, and federal support for public education.

In Congress Brad Sherman is a senior member of the Financial Services Committee

where he led the fight to stop the $700 billion TARP bailout of Wall Street. Sherman

serves as the ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee on Terrorism and

Nonproliferation and is helping to lead efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear

weapons.

In 2012, Brad Sherman was awarded the Humane Champion Award by the Humane

Society of the United States.

Brad Sherman is married to Lisa Kaplan Sherman and they have three daughters,

Molly, Naomi and Lucy.

In 2008, Brad Sherman, a CPA and

Senior Democrat on the Financial

Services Committee, stood up to the

leadership of both parties and powerful

Wall Street lobbyists and fought to

stop the $700 billion TARP bailout of

Wall Street and the big banks.

Sherman organized a group of

opponents to the bailout bill and

defeated it on the floor of the House

of Representatives by a 228 to 205

vote. This was despite arm-twisting

from the Bush Administration, the

leaders of both parties and every

lobbyist on K Street.

Four days later, the supporters of TARP pushed through a revised version of the bailout

bill. But by then, Sherman had forced changes in the bailout program which saved

taxpayers over $400 billion by preventing

the government purchase of “toxic assets.”

Took on Wall Street and fought tostop the $700 billion TARP bailout.

Brad Sherman comes through for the Valley. Here are a few of Brad’s accomplishments as

a member of Congress:

• Reform Wall Street by cracking down on those who created the financial crisis and

breaking up banks that are “too big to fail.”

• Oppose unfair trade deals that ship Valley jobs overseas.

• Protect home values in the Valley by increasing the “conforming loan limit” in areas like

the Valley where home prices are above the national average and to stop predatory

mortgage lenders and prevent foreclosures.

• Expand the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and stop the massive

Ahmanson Ranch development.

• Speed up construction of extra

lanes to the 405 and the 5 freeways

to help relieve traffic congestion.

• Protect consumers by passing the

Credit Card Holders Bill of

Rights.

• Improve recreation in the

Sepulveda Basin.

• Make student loans more

affordable by reducing interest

rates.

• Work to end the wars in Iraq and

Afghanistan.

Coming through for the Valley.

Brad Sherman who led the House revolt

against the bailout bill this week (and will

do so again on Friday) has become

spectacularly unpopular with both the

Republican and Democratic leaderships,

not to mention K Street.

Brad Sherman listens to Valley residents and has heldover 160 Town Hall meetings in the Valley.

Brad Sherman knows that his most important job as a member of Congress is to listen. By

listening to Valley residents, Brad Sherman makes sure Valley values are represented in

Congress.

That’s why Brad Sherman has held over 160 Town Hall meetings in communities

throughout the Valley. The Town Hall meetings have given tens of thousands of Valley

residents an opportunity to have their questions answered and their voices heard.

Brad Sherman also holds workshops to help Valley residents solve problems with federal

agencies like Social Security or the Veteran’s Administration and learn how to obtain an

affordable college loan or a low-interest mortgage.

President Bill ClintonsupportsBrad Sherman.

“Brad Sherman has done a great

job for the people of his district

and he has a keen understanding

of both the challenges facing our

country today and innovative

ideas on what to do about them.

Brad has worked tirelessly for the

people of California and I hope

he will continue to do so.”
