The UMW will meet on Tuesday, November 17, at
6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall for their annual soup
supper and World Thank Offering. Everyone is
welcome for this time of fellowship with a mission
focus. The World Thank Offering is an annual
collection that supplements funding for missions
projects by UMW in the U. S. and around the
world. Little blue boxes are seen in our homes as
a reminder to be in an attitude of thanks
throughout the year.
Again this year, the UMW is promoting Operation
Christmas Child Shoebox gift project. By
November 1 the collection box will be placed in the
church foyer. Shoeboxes packed with children’s
gifts will be collected until November 24. The
boxes will be dedicated during the morning
worship service on November 22. On the table in
the foyer are program fliers about this annual
project.

In the United Methodist Church, All Saints Day is
observed on the first Sunday in November to
remember deceased members of the local church
congregation. A candle is lit as each person’s
name is called.
All Saints Day was observed at the First United
Methodist Church in Minneapolis on Sunday,
November 1 to honor those who have passed in the
last year.
The November Second Sunday meal will be on
November 8 immediately following the worship
service. The T4C youth group will be hosting.
The youth will be serving soups and chili. They
are asking the congregation to bring desserts and
side dishes – crackers, cheese, relishes, etc.
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
October, 2015
The Administrative Council for the First United Methodist
Church of Minneapolis met for their regularly scheduled
monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 7:00
p.m. Twelve members were in attendance: Dale, Sharon,
Steve, Paula, Joyce, Colette, Pat, Kathleen, Cassie, Al, Kristi and
Pastor Kennedy.
Chairman Dale Henderson opened the meeting.
Pastor Kennedy led us in prayer.
Minutes of the September meeting were presented in written
form. The minutes were corrected to read “Steve Baccus was
in charge of one planned small group and others are planned.”
The minutes were approved as amended.
Steve reported for the Treasurer in her absence. He said that
the budget is in excellent shape.
Steve also gave the report for the Finance committee. He
reported that the budget has been submitted to the office and
he thanks ALL committees whose members worked to get
narrative budgets submitted in a timely fashion. The budget
will be voted on at charge conference.
The Trustees report was given by Paula. She reported that they
continue working on the youth room. The youth would like to
have furniture and paint. Televisions have been located for
around $600.00 each. Paula moved that the council approve
the purchase of two televisions and any other equipment
needed for installation for the youth and Fellowship Hall. The
motion was seconded and approved.
Reporting for the SPPR committee, Dale said that the budget
has been sent to the Finance committee with a recommended
4% increase for the pastor’s salary and other staff salaries are
increased 3%.
There was no report from the Education or Youth committees.
Cassie, reporting for the Outreach committee, said that the
schedule for the Coffee Hour has been made.
Neither the Memorial committee nor the Missions committee
has met. The group was reminded that the Missions committee
is sponsoring a cookie walk on December 13.
There was no report from Love INC.
Kathleen reported for the Worship committee. She said that
they have a vision to “restart” our church. She thanked Colette
for spearheading the Children’s Sabbath program and all agreed
that it was a great program and that the children and youth did
very well. Kathleen announced that the Hearts 4 Him singing
group will be here on October 25 during the worship service
and that the Bell Choir will play also.
The UMW report was given by Sharon, in Gail’s absence. The
women had served a lunch to the District Clergy and there was
a good crowd attending. Gail, Sharon, Joan and Eleanora
attended the district meeting in Concordia.
Kristi reported for the Preschool Board. They have not formally
met. A grant application has been submitted to G. L. Huyett
that Colette and Sharon worked on requesting funds for
materials to be used in teaching the children fine motor skills.
Megan is working on getting two substitute teachers.
OLD BUSINESS: Preparations are being made for the chicken
dinner on October 25.
NEW BUSINESS: Steve said that there are problems with the
camera being used to film worship service but several are
working to isolate the problem.
It was announced that the Presbyterian Church is hosting a
soup supper on October 21.
Approval was given for the Housing Resolution and the council
voted to approve Lay Servant Report. Sharon’s name was
presented for renewal as Lay Servant. Motion was made and
seconded. Approved.
The Lay Leadership report was presented in written form to the
council for their approval with the exception of the Lay
Leadership - Class of 2018 nominations {the responsibility of the
council to nominate). Kathleen Wedel, Dean Johnson and
Bruce Cleveland’s names were submitted as members of the
Lay Leadership committee.
Pastor Kennedy reported that Barb Kibler and Pam Feldt have
agreed to be the liaisons for the Health and Wellness
committee. The motion was made to approve the
recommendations of the Lay Leadership committee. Seconded
and approved.

moved to the inactive list on membership roll.
Dale announced that the next meeting will be November 11,
2015 at 7:00 p.m.
Pastor Kennedy closed the meeting with prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Hamm, Recording Secretary
On Sunday, October 25, we were blessed with a
presentation by the Hearts 4 Him ensemble during the
morning worship service. We hope that they will return
soon for another concert!
From the Heart of the Pastor! On October 25, 2015 the Ada/Minneapolis United Methodist community gathered for charge conference. Those present were able to reflect upon our last year churchly activities, elect and confirm 2016 leadership and boldly declared the church's commitment to a future with hope. Those who were not present missed a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what God is doing in our midis. Those elected committee and board chairpersons and co-chairpersons will soon be receiving a letter of congratulations and an opportunity to learn more about their team in the respective committees and boards. What a wonderful leadership we have! But the most important thing that happened that evening is our commitment to mission and ministry in our community and beyond. Mission is team work! No one can do it alone. This team work business was started by Jesus himself. He was sent to the world to transform the world. This is a job he could have done within a moment. But Jesus decided to involve others in the process, and I always say “he loves company, so do we!”One of the surest ways of destroying self-worth is subsidizing the idleness of able-bodied people. Work is a gift, a calling and a human responsibility. And worship is our response to what God is doing with us and for us. There are no spectators in true worship. We are all participants in one way or another. Jesus is calling us to work in partnership to transform the world. And yes, as the Africa adage goes, 'it takes a village to raise a child,” it takes the hearts and souls of the faithful to build beloved communities. At our charge conference we reaffirmed our commitment to be “Christ's Ambassadors by inviting, sharing, nurturing and forgiving!” We are not going to be Christ's Ambassadors by word of mouth alone. We are all going to be Christ's Ambassadors by word and deed! Yes all of us! Some are going to be Christ's Ambassadors and focus on praying and praying hard. We need prayer warriors in our faith community. We are going to pray for the holy spirit to overshadow us and give us strength to do God's work, pray for healing for those who are sick, pray for comfort to those who would have lost their loved ones, pray for peace in the world and pray for everything. Some are going to be Christ's Ambassadors and focus on the day to day activities of reaching out to our community and beyond. These are our volunteers at local level and beyond the local church being Christ's hands and feet making the world a better place for all God's people. Worship is work! Mission is work! We are a compassionate community. Our perceptions about a community, or ourselves for that matter, influence our expectations. What we believe about a neighborhood or about ourselves for that matter will in large measure determine what we find when we get there. Jeremiah 29:11 remind us of God's plan for us; “For surely I know the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope!” I want us to view mission, be it local or beyond as investment. Some of us are going to be Christ's ambassadors and focus on funding and fund-raising for mission work locally and beyond. These may never go on a mission trip or repair a broken window at the church or neighbor's house. They may never visit the sick in hospital or fix a broken furnace at the church. But they will make sure that if there is someone who wants to go on a mission trip, or fix a broken furnace or window to be fixed, there are funds available. The finance committee has provided us with a narrative budget that should help us understand what needs to be funded. The Missions and Education committees wants to take at least ten children to camp next year and participate in a partnership with Zimbabwe. We are in this together! As God has blessed you, be a blessing to the world! Thank you all. See you all in church! Pastor Kennedy Mukwindidza
Annual Chicken Dinner 2015
On Sunday before the chicken
dinner some of the younger
members of our congregation
gathered and prepared the
chicken for frying.
On Tuesday the mashed potatoes and cabbage for the cole slaw
were prepared. Some of the youth got involved!

The Mission committee is collecting cookie/candy tins
for this Cookie Walk. The tins may be put in the box in
the foyer.
The Cookie Walk will be AFTER the second Sunday
dinner on December 13 from 1:00 until all cookies are
gone. We would like to have people contribute 2-3
dozen cookies. The cookies do not necessarily need to
be ‘holiday’ cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter,
snickerdoodles are always favorites).
More information will follow.
Thank you for your help!
I want to thank the church congregation for their
phone calls, visits and food brought to me since my
surgery. It was greatly appreciated.
