BEAT THE HEAT(AVOID HEAT ILLNESS)
With school sports back in session, hot practice and games days are inevitable.
TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID OVERHEATING:
• Wear light moisture wicking clothing
• Hydrate before, during, and after practice/game
• Have frequent water breaks in the shade
• Utilize ice towels on the sideline to stay cool
• Move practice times to cooler times during the day,
such as early mornings
• Limit the duration of practice on a hot day
RECOGNIZE HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION:
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT STROKE:
• Heavy sweating
• Nausea
• Confusion
• Vomiting
• Goose bumps
• Extreme fatigue
• Weak and rapid pulse
• Bizarre behavior
• Signi� cant confusion
• Lack of consciousness
• A strong and fast pulse
• Red skin
• Either heavy sweating
or a cessation of
sweating
• A temperature greater
than 1040
