Meet The Business Leader 2012
Meet The Business Leader will be held on Wednesday 22 August. This event will provide
Year 10 and 11 students who are interested in a career in business, the opportunity to meet
with young and experienced professionals from a variety of business roles to gain a better
insight into the business profession. Firms attending include Ernst & Young, PwC, Lend
Lease, KPMG, Nexia Court & Co, Deloitte, Taylor Woodings, UTS, Moore Stephens, UNSW
and HLB Mann Judd. Keynote speaker is Andrea Culligan (Telstra’s Business Women of the
Year) from The Unimail Group.

The Optus Cadet Engineering Program 2013
The Optus Engineering Cadet Program is a combination of education and paid on-the-job
learning over three years. The program involves on-the-job training blocks, an accelerated
TAFE program, professional training and Optus-specific training. Optus partners with South
Western Sydney Institute of TAFE where cadets undertake full-time study blocks at
Lidcombe TAFE where they gain the following qualifications:
- Advanced Diploma Telecommunications Networks
- Advanced Diploma Optical Network
- Graduate Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering
On the job rotations range from six to twelve weeks and cadets undertake five rotations
thoughout the program. You need to be interested in engineering and technology, be self-
motivated and a problem solver. Students need to have undertaken English, Maths and any
Science for the HSC and Design and Technology will be highly regarded but not essential.

Universities:
New Pedorthics, Podiatry and Speech Pathology Degrees at Southern Cross
University in 2013
Southern Cross University has just become the first university in Australia to offer formal
tertiary qualification in pedorthics.
A Bachelor in Clinical Science majoring in pedorthics will be offered from 2013. Speech
pathology and podiatry will be offered as majors through the Bachelor of Health Science for
the first time.
The three allied health degrees will be based at the University's Gold Coast campus.

University of Newcastle Bonus Points for Uni Entry
Students receiving an ATAR in 2012 could earn up to 8 bonus points if they apply to study at
University of Newcastle in 2013. Students studying certain subjects in 2012 may receive up
to 4 bonus points, and students from certain regional or rural areas will automatically receive
4 bonus points.

University of Wollongong – Women in Engineering Summit
At the Women in Engineering Summit, students learn about career opportunities in the
engineering industry. Students have the chance to meet industry leaders, academics and
other women who share similar interests from across NSW and the ACT. The Summit will be
held at the University of Wollongong from Monday 7 January to Friday 11 January 2013.
Activities will include guest speakers, hands-on workshops and interactive group activities.
The Summit is open to all young women commencing Year 11 in 2013 with an interest in

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) offers a range of short courses across ACT and

EA Ski and Snowboard Scholarship 2012/13
EA Ski and Snowboard have an internationally recognised combined ski instructor training
and job offer program. The Instructor internship program allows participants to teach at a
number of ski resorts around the world. EA Ski are offering a fully paid scholarship to

Early Entry/Alternative Access:
University of Western Sydney Triple Advantage
The University of Western Sydney Triple Advantage is the combination of their Early Offer
Opportunities, Regional Bonus Points and Subject Bonus Points. The Triple Advantage is
only open to people living or studying in the Greater Western Sydney region (excluding the
subject bonus point scheme).
The Early Offer program allows students with an ATAR above the 2012 published cut-off for
their desired course to receive an offer in the Early January Round of UAC offers.
The Regional Bonus Points scheme automatically grants students 5 bonus points to study at
UWS (excluding some degrees), and the Subject Bonus Points scheme automatically allows
students completing certain courses to a high standard in 2012 to be granted a maximum of
10 bonus points.

University of Western Sydney Indigenous Access Programs
The University of Western Sydney has two indigenous access programs for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander students who either do not have a HSC or other qualifications or who
have an ATAR score lower than required for their chosen course. The Badanami Alternative
Entry Program applies to indigenous students who wish to enter into undergraduate
programs across all areas of study at the university, while the School of Medicine Indigenous
Program is aimed at indigenous students with an interest in completing the Bachelor of
Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery.

The University of Wollongong Foundation Studies Courses
The University of Wollongong Foundation Studies courses are university preparation
courses for students who have not completed secondary schooling or who have not met the
direct entry requirements for a University of Wollongong Bachelor Degree. Successful
completion of the program will enable students to enter the first year of their chosen
Bachelor Degree at University of Wollongong.
Applications for the Summer Session in 2012/2013 close on 10 th September 2012, and
applications for the Autumn Session 2013 close on 11th January.

The University of Wollongong Selective Entry
Applications for The University of Wollongong’s Selective Entry Admissions program are
now open. UOW Selective Entry is how your high marks in Years 10, 11 and 12 can earn
you a place in a UOW degree, before you get your ATAR. When you apply, the university
will look at your Year 12 half-yearly raw exam results to see if you meet the minimum criteria
for your chosen degree. They may then ask you to UOW for an interview or selection event.
If you’re successful, you’ll be invited to study at UOW—before you receive your ATAR.

Charles Sturt University Creative Writing Competition
Competition closes Friday 21st September.
Open to people between the ages of 15 and 21 living in NSW, ACT or Victoria, this creative
writing competition asks people to write a creative and engaging story, poem or script.
Entrants will be in the running for 1 of 4 $250 cash prizes and the chance to get published.
Entries must be no longer than 1000 words and should show how personal lives intersect
with larger patterns of communities.

National History Challenge
The National History Challenge encourages students to discover more about the past
through research and enquiry. Students can investigate something of their choosing such as
their family, community or a past event. Students are rewarded with cash prizes and travel
opportunities. The competition is open to students from all years with winners progressing to

Sail the Young Endeavour
People between the ages of 16 and 23 are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to sail as
a temporary crew member on board the Young Endeavour. Whilst aboard, the Royal
Australian Navy crew will teach you how to sail a square-rigged vessel, including how to
navigate, keep watch, take the helm, cook in the galley, tie knots, work aloft and even take
command.
