CHB Rotary River PathwayThe Central Hawke’s Bay ‘Tukituki Trail’ runs between the towns of Waipukurau and Waipawa. You can start at Russell Park, Waipukurau and follow the stopbanks of the Tukituki River. The mostly flat trails are a rural ride, which is naturally bordered by private farms and the river bank. A highlight is the dedicated cycling/walking suspension bridge near the end of Tapairu Road. You can then return to Russell Park the other side of the river (11km) or you can carry on via Tapairu Road to Waipawa (12km).
From Russell Park a new 5km extension is underway up to Lindsay Bush. Cross the bridge, using the clip-on and take the trail in the other direction. Enjoy a short walk around this beautiful, protected and ancient native bush reserve.
Gum Tree Mountain Bike Park is popular and can be accessed at the end of Mt Herbert Road.

Need to Know More
Hawke’s Bay Trails created and maintained by –
Wairoa River PathwayWairoa is the main town of Northern Hawkes’ Bay and is the gateway to Lake Waikaremoana, and the wilderness of Te Urewera and Mahia Peninsula. Wairoa in Māori means ‘Long Water’ and located on the banks of the expansive Wairoa River which provides an excellent and sheltered venue for water-skiing, jet boating and rowing. The Wairoa i-SITE Visitor Centre is located on the corner of SH2 and Queen Street.
Experience some of Wairoa’s rich heritage by exploring the easy 7.5km (15km return) off road shared cycle/walkway beside the river and out to the wildlife lagoon. See sites of historical significance along the way, sharing the stories of Māori and European settlement. The ride starts at the historic Portland Island Lighthouse in town: it follows the river before heading up and over Pilot Hill, continuing beside Whakamahi Road to finish at Whakamahi Lagoon Wildlife Reserve.
Wairoa also boasts a mountain bike park with Grade 2-4 trails. It’s located at Fraser Street, on the outskirts of Wairoa Township. Membership can be obtained through Adventure Wairoa’s website.

Water RideThe easy ride that is perfect for families. Our Water Ride is flat with lots of places to start from Napier and the surrounding areas, Bay View in the north to Clive in the south-east and Taradale/Puketapu to the west.
The Marine Parade Explorer is super easy. Go from Napier along the coast to the Waitangi Star Compass and on to Clive • 15-30 km return
The Water Ride meanders through wetlands out to the coast at Bay View and back to Westshore or Ahuriri, with winery, café and bar stops en route. • 25-35 km
The Puketapu Loop. Start at the coast at Waitangi Regional Park OR inland at Taradale. You’ll find river picnic spots, a charming country pub, restaurant, general store, nearby café or winery and an historic church. • 17-35 km
Wineries RideA loop through our western wine-growing region of Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa on the outer edge of Hastings. Start from Roy’s Hill Reserve for the short loop of a few wineries and the odd brewery OR go long… enjoy historic Oak Avenue and the banks of the Ngaruroro river. • 30-60 km
Landscapes RideA great way to explore the coast from Clive and see the communities at Haumoana, Te Awanga and Clifton, bordering the iconic Cape Kidnappers coastline. The Cape is home to the world’s largest mainland gannet colony and one of the world’s top-40 golf courses.
The Kidnappers Coast starts at Clive. Pedal the flats to Black Bridge and over the river to the charming Cape Coast with the Arts Heritage Trail out to Clifton. • 15-30 km return
Also from Clive, head to Black Bridge and turn inland to Havelock North, overlooking vineyards, orchards and the Tukituki River. Enjoy the changing scenery, the golden syrupy light of autumn, with views of majestic Te Mata Peak. Stop at the cafes and wineries on the western side of the trail. • 19-38 km return
