From the President…
Hello and welcome to all today to mark the start of the second half of our season. Today we welcome the players and supporters from Forrestfield United for our first return match of the season . We of course will be looking for the same result we achieved last week against Kingsway to further improve our league position. The first game of the year was a tough one and we expect the same again today but with a much better outcome.
Last week our fifteens did us proud in the “Cup game” against NPL side Perth Glory. They went down 1-0 but from all reports we more than matched it with them and we're unlucky to lose. Keep up the good work boys and finish off your season well.
It has been noted that several players currently are not able to train each week but would still like to play a game on the weekend. Next season it is the Clubs’ plan to field a social team on Sunday with just one training session per week. If you would be interested in this then let me know so that we can make proper plans for this.
Also a reminder that the canteen and bar are open this afternoon with some of the best products in Perth and all at very reasonable prices.
All the best to all players and supporters this afternoon.

From the Coach… Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, today we welcome Forrestfield United to Princess Road. We
are on a revenge mission against today's opponents having lost heavily to them at their ground on
the first day of the season.
This afternoon will show us just how much improvement we have made since then, we know they
are a strong outfit and we will need to be on our best to get something out of the game.
Last week we picked up our second win of the season against Kingsway Olympic, a result which
moved us off the bottom of the table, in what was a very tight game, it was 2 goals from our new
signing Robert Nicholl that won us the game. Robbie has been injured for a large part of the season,
but I am sure when he gets more games under his belt he will be a real threat, unfortunately he will
not be available today having picked up two yellow cards last week, he really did have an eventful
first game for us. With a few of our injured players back in training we are now hoping for a better
half of the season.
As with most reserve teams ours are having an up and down season so far, picking up good points
one week then losing the next, Valentine and the lads always give their best so we cannot ask for
anything more than that.
Our 18's had a good 3-0 win last week to sit just below half way in the table, this team contains
some very fine players with Amir bringing them along nicely, it points to a very bright future for the
club.
Lastly I would like to welcome Catherine Davis to the club, she has taken over the physio duties for
the next 5 weeks while Jo-Anne is away. I am sure the lads are in safe hands.

THE LAST TIME WE MET
V
12TH APRIL, 2014
(Hartfield Park)
Forrestfield United made an early statement of intent by beating Balga 6-0 in the opening round Division Two fixture at Hartfield Park. A tentative start by both teams gave no indications of the whitewash which was about to unfold. Forrestfield slowly began to get into rhythm with close-range chances coming the way of Trent Wood and Rhys Loxley, while Forrestfield goalkeeper Brad Eiffe foiled Michael Bangura following a defensive error at the other end. It wasn’t until just before the break that the deadlock was broken, Jordan Hart receiving a through ball which he placed in the back of the net.
Any hopes Balga had to getting back on level terms vanished within minutes of the restart, Jason Godfrey doubling the host’s advantage from only a few metres. Forrestfield were now beginning to assert their authority over the game against a Balga side that struggled for any meaningful possession. Trent Wood put the result beyond doubt by scoring twice in the space of a few minutes midway through the half as the margin began to balloon. Loxley capped a lively performance by also finding the back of the net twice in the final fifteen minutes to give coach Rod Banjac a dream start to the winter campaign.

Previous league games against Forrestfield
Balga have met Forrestfield United 21 times in the league. The first time the
two clubs met however was in 1981 in a cup game, when 2nd tier Balga caused
an upset to beat top flight Forrestfield United 2-1. Forrestfield went on to
finish runners-up in the State Premier Division that season.
Out of the 21 leagues games, Forrestfield United have won twelve times, there
have only been three draws, while Balga have won on six occasions.
This season is the first time that the clubs have met in the third tier of the
Saturday competition. The clubs have previously met in the State League
Premier, First Division and Amateur Premier.

Our Opponents
Forrestfield United's have a long history in WA football, and were orignally known as Cottestloe when they entered the State League competition in 1962. Cottesloe later merged in 1971 with SMA United (Swan Migrant Assocation) to become SMA Cottelsoe. As SMA were based in the Ascot area it was decided to change the club name to "Ascot Soccer Club" the following year.
In 1974 the club became WA Champions when they took our the State Premier Division title by nine points. In 1978 Ascot won the last Ampol Cup (Night Series), and that trophy is proudly on display in the Forrestfield clubrooms.
In late 1978 Ascot were in merger dicussions with Fourth Division club Kalamunda United, who were based at Hartfield Park, Forrestfield. The merger went ahead, and the new name of the merged club was to become Forrestfield United in 1979.
Forrestfield have had many highs and lows since 1979, which included a stint in the Amateur League from 1993 to 2004. But the club is now riding high in Division Two, and look set to return to Division One in the very near future.

1986
After just surviving our first year in the top flight of WA football on the last game of the
season, coach Ray Ilott hoped to gain a few new signings to strengthen the squad for 1986,
however, he left when he learnt that this wouldn't happen. The club lost all three of their
Scottish imports to other clubs (Paul Gaffney and Tony McKinlay both went to Forrestfield,
while Gavin Tait went to Perth Azzurri). The club also lost the talented Peter Andrews to
Azzurri.
Brian Gillespie took over as coach before the season started and with the loss of the club's
star players to rival clubs, the situation seemed hopeless. But with the new signing of striker
George Rimpas, Paul Gaffney's return mid-season and the determination of all the players,
Balga avoided relegation and even managed to be as high as 6th spot in round 13, before
finishing 8th.
The Reserves had their best cup run to date, by reaching the final before losing to Inglewood
Kiev 3-2.
