Campus Ministry News January 2017
Dear Members of the Badin Family….
Happy New Year!
God, thank you for a new year.
May everyone in our family (Ramily) be willing to begin anew with a clean slate.
We know that you are always ready to forgive us.
Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves
and to forgive one another.
As we begin a new year, remind us of our truest values and our deepest desires.
Help us to live in the goodness that comes from doing what you want us to do.
Help us to put aside anxiety about the future and the past,
so that we might live in peace with you now,
one day at a time. Amen! JOY Junior Retreat # 48 – January 26 & 27, 2017 – We are so excited to conclude our JOY Junior Retreats for the Class of 2018 with another amazing group of juniors this month! Please keep this group in your prayers as the Badin Ramily will be in ours! Each year we offer 3 separate dates for students in our junior class to attend retreat. The first 2 were outstanding and we’re looking forward to this one being great as well!
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2017 – Solidarity; We are one human family, called to
work globally for justice. Please see the following pages for specific information.
Christian Service – all students are again asked to volunteer their time to make a difference to those most in need. Our Christian Service Coordinator, Mrs. Halverson, would love to meet with you to discuss options for serving. Please contact Mrs. Halverson at [email protected]
The Religion Club: We have a new club at Badin that your student is welcome to join! This group was established by members of the junior class during the fall of 2016. The mission of this group is to share prayer, leadership, fellowship and joy! Members will meet in the chapel during approximately 20 minutes on the 1st activity bell on the 1st block day each time we have block. (We will make an announcement to call students to the chapel for each meeting). Lots of exciting events going on…
**Prayer Intentions – anyone who would like the Religion Club to pray for their special intentions is invited to come to the chapel and write those intentions in the binder marked “Religion Club Book of Intentions”. We will be sure to keep you in our prayers at the next meeting! Such a special way to share fellowship, faith and friendship!
**Throughout 2nd quarter, religion club is collecting CARDBOARD (thin cardboard like a cereal box) to donate to Made To Love in Hamilton. They will then send it to Haiti so that local artisans can make beads out of the cardboard for ‘fair-trade’ goods that are then sold at the Made To Love store downtown Hamilton! A win-win opportunity. https://www.facebook.com/Made-to-Love-165303216824805/
**Don’t forget that we will be collecting pop tabs throughout the month of February to donate to the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati. Collect those tabs! For each zip top baggie of 250 tabs, students will receive 1 hour of service – max of 3 hour for this project. Each year, the Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati makes approximately $25,000 from the pop tab collections. All tabs should be turned in to your religion teacher who will have a special Service Form for this project! For more info, please go to http://www.rmhcincinnati.org/help/donate/pull-tabs
Please follow us on Twitter at @BadinFaith
Again, we are very excited to be sharing in the faith development of your children! Please feel free to contact the Office of Campus Ministry with any comments, questions, or concerns…. [email protected]. Remember: Always be humble and kind….
Respectfully,
Mrs. Gina Miserocchi Helms

Badin Theme: Solidarity; We are one human family, called to work globally for justice.
“[Solidarity] is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit
oneself to the common good; that is to say, to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all.” (Saint John Paul II, Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, no. 38)

Office Of Admissions and Marketing
January 2017
Key Admissions Dates: Test Scores will be sent out on Wednesday, January 11 Scholar Leader Academy Awards Night—January 26 for all invited guests Registration Night, Thursday, Feb. 2. 2017, 6:00-8:15 PM
Badin will most likely have a Waiting List for the Class of 2021. Due to almost 300 test scores sent to Badin for the incoming freshman class, the Badin Administration will be narrowing down the admission offers to current 8th grade students based on some of the following criteria: test scores, their interest in Ba-din and attendance to admissions events, having a sibling at Badin, having a parent who is a Badin alumni, etc. We don’t mean to alarm prospective parents and students, but in order to continue to offer a quality education in a smaller setting and as a service to our students, we want to maintain a manageable sized stu-dent body. Badin is happy to host Shadow students who are interested in considering a career in the Ram family. Eighth graders are frequenting the building now, but potential transfer students are welcome to visit as well. We schedule the dates at your convenience. To set up a visit, give me a call and I will be glad to arrange it for you. Badin will be sending the High School Placement Test scores to potential members of the Class of 2021 on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Financial aid awards for all students will also be included in that mailing, as will appli-cations for the Summer Work Program. Please return those applications as soon as possible if you are inter-ested in having your child be a part of the Summer Work Program. If you have questions, contact the fi-nance office at (513) 863-3993, ext. 117. Happy New Year and Go Rams!

CHRISTIAN SERVICE at Badin High School
Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more. -Luke 12:48
We are excited to announce the inaugural year of our Summer in Solidarity Program, and we hope you can join us for an informational meeting on the 17th. Service opportunities for January will be posted and emailed when the dates are finalized. And as we begin this new year, more aware of our gifts than ever, may we invite our students to use what has been given to them for the benefit of others.
Summer in Solidarity
“Solidarity is action on behalf of the one human family, calling us to help overcome the divisions in our world.”
-U.S. Bishops, Called to Global Solidarity
This summer, Badin will begin its Summer in Solidarity Program. We will be hosting one domestic trip and one international trip, where students are invited to be with and to pay deeper attention to people
in the world living a life much different than their own. Trips will be based on four cornerstones: community, spirituality, simplicity, and service, and will be incredible experiences of learning to live in solidarity.
Join us from June 12 to 16, 2017, at Solsberry Hill in rural Indiana, for an experience of service, sacredness, and spirit, or from July 18 to 23, 2017, in Guatemala with Cooperative for Education, to experience the culture of the indigenous
Mayan people and to contribute to the betterment of their education in order to break the cycle of poverty.
If you are interested in finding out more, plan on attending our INFORMATION MEETING for PARENTS and STUDENTS
on Tuesday, January 17, at 7:00pm. in the Chapel.
Applications for Summer in Solidarity trips will be available on January 17, and will be due Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]. Thank you! Mrs. Megan Halverson, Christian Service Coordinator
Junior Parents,
College is more selective and expensive than ever, but a great ACT® score can open doors
to funding and admission. If your student is trying to get into the college of his/her choice
or obtain scholarship money, and you’re worried their ACT® score might hold them back:
There is hope.
We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep™, an innovative test
training program that cracks the code on improving ACT® scores. Through strategy-driven
training focused on repetition, customization, and student motivation, TorchPrep™ will help
your student overcome the ACT®.
I strongly believe this program will be beneficial for you. TorchPrep™ has continually yielded outstanding ACT® score for our students. TorchPrep™ is worth it!

Are you interested in hosting an International student for the
2017-18 school year? This is a tremendous opportunity to
make a difference in a student’s life, have a valuable experi-
ence within your family, and be an important part of the
Badin community. Monthly stipends are available from the
host organizations. For more information, contact the
Admissions Office at Badin.
Congratulations to senior Noah Connaughton (St. Joseph),
who was elected president of the Ohio DECA chapter at the
annual Fall Leadership conference in Columbus Nov. 28.
Connaughton has taken every Marketing Education class
possible at Badin and has passion to make the DECA or-
ganization the best that it can be. He is the first Badin stu-
dent elected president of the organization in the past two
decades, according to the DECA co-moderator at Badin, Mr.
Joe DeAngelo. Connaughton had earlier signed to play
tennis at the University of Dayton, where he will study, of
course, marketing. His family owns and operates the local
Flub’s ice cream stores. Seniors Josh Wolpert (Sacred
Heart) and Kayla Connelly (Immanuel Lutheran) were also
candidates for state office at the DECA conference.
Badin students donated more than 6,500 canned goods to
the St. Raphael’s food pantry in Hamilton for the holiday
season — representing more than 11.5 cans per student in
the school of 559 students. “There were cans everywhere,”
said Student Council co-moderator Mrs. Erin Keating, “and
that’s a good thing!” The sophomore class led the way with
2,048 canned goods donated.
Badin inducted 57 students — 37 juniors and 20 seniors —
into its National Honor Society chapter during the annual
evening “tapping” ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Induc-
tion into the National Honor Society is one of the top aca-
demic honors a student can receive during his or her Badin
career, said BHS Principal Mr. Brian Pendergest. Students
in NHS excel in the areas of academics, character, service
and leadership. There are now 92 students in the NHS at
Badin, including 35 students in the Class of 2017 who were
inducted as juniors. Kaitlyn Dick (Sacred Heart) is the presi-
dent of Badin’s National Honor Society chapter.
Five Badin females attended the annual Women in Infor-
mation Technology Conference at Xavier University on Nov.
18. Those in attendance included seniors Morgan Mills (St.
Joseph), Sam Sander (St. Ann), Sydney Sanders (St. Ann),
and juniors Kyla Boback (St. John Dry Ridge) and Jessica
Tri-Rudolf (St. Gabriel).
Senior Brian Gerbus (Sacred Heart) was named the Offen-
sive Lineman of the Year in the GCL Central Division and
senior Cooper Bucalo (St. Maximilian Kolbe) was the Athlete
of the Year in the division in boys soccer!
Badin Students of the Month for November include senior
Evan Grawe (Sacred Heart), junior Benny Wang (China),
sophomore Lexi Berkely (Lakota Liberty) and freshman
Emily Sauer (St. Peter in Chains). Students are nominat-
ed by faculty and staff and selected by a committee for mak-
ing a difference inside and outside the halls of Badin High.
