What is Dialysis?• It is a process for removing waste

and excess water from the blood, and is used primarily as an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with renal failure.

Alternative Treatment for kidney failure

• Kidneys are made up of "Rakta" and "Meda" dhatus. Treating these two dhatus is an effective way to treat the kidneys.

• According to Ayurveda, human body is made of 3 doshas – Vata, pitta, Kapha. When they are in synchronized form it depicts a healthy body system. Disease is caused by vitiated doshas.

• In Renal Impairment, Kledak Kapha, Apana Vayu & Pachak Pitta are vitiated. Ayurveda works to synchronize these three doshas.

• With Ayurvedic Medicine, kidney damage can be either partly or fully reversed.

• Herbs have active ingredients which act to repair & rejuvenate renal epithelium.

• These herbs also eliminate toxins from the body & decrease Urea & Creatinine.

• They also decrease the complications of CKD like atherosclerosis.

• Frequency of dialysis can be reduced. • Increased risk of death from cardiovascular diseases can

be significantly reduced.

Playing the roles of kidney• Increasing Urine quantity.• Few Herbs which excrete Urea & Creatinine through

fecal route.• Tribulus terrestris (Gokshura), Boerhaavia Diffusa

( Punnarnava) & Crataeva nurvala (Varuna) increases Urine flow.

• Rubia cardifolia (Manjistha) - helps in excretion.

Heavy metal issue• We do have heavy metals in some of our

Ras-rasayana medicines, but for Kidney patients we do not recommend those medicines.

• Whatever medicine we prescribe is our own preparation, 100 % herbal & free from heavy metals.

• Organically grown herbs.• Free from preservatives even.

Page 14: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

Goals of Ayurvedic treatment for kidney failure1. Support the kidneys until they

have healed and can work properly.

2. Prevent or treat any complications caused by acute renal failure.

3. Correct or treat the cause of kidney failure.

Page 15: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

Repairing renal parenchyma

• Boerhaavia diffusa (Punnarnava), Tribulus terrestris (Gokshura), Pistacia lentiscus (Rumimastagi) - repair & rejuvenate the Renal Parenchyma.

• Phyllanthus niruri (Bhumiamalaki), Cichorium intybus (kasani) – Anti-bacterial and anti-viral action, they clear the viral over load from kidney & liver.

• Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) - decrease load or pressure on kidneys created by Diuretics.

Page 16: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

Decreasing Urea & Creatinine

• Tribulus terrestris (Gokshura), Boerhaavia diffusa (Punnarnava ) & Crataeva nurvala (Varuna) - increases Urine flow.

• Moringa oleifera (Shigru) - has Aksheeva property i.e. It relieves intoxication, also increases Urine flow.

• Asparagus racemose (Shatavari)• Berberis aristata (Daruharidra) and Tricosanthe dioica

(Patol).

Page 17: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

Decrease Cardiovascular risks

• Rubia cardifolia (Manjistha)• Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) reduces

stress

Page 18: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

• Reducing Frequency of Dialysis• Dialysis - process for removing waste and

excess water from the blood.• It is not the treatment.• Myth – Dialysis once started goes on

increasing and final option is transplant. • True with allopathic medicine, not according

to Ayurveda.

Page 19: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

• Can we stop Dialysis?• Not with Allopathic medicine.• With Ayurvedic treatment its possible.• Even dialysis can be stopped in a specific

period of time which obviously depends on patient’s response to the treatment.

Page 20: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

• Transplant• Transplant - easy option over dialysis. Not true. • Role of immunosuppressant medicines after

transplant.• Increases the life span from 10 to 15 years in

70% of cases.• Rest diagnosed with kidney failure again within

2 months -5 yrs.

Page 21: Ayurvedic treatment for Kidney Failure

Transplant• Life span increased from 10-15 years in

80% of cases.• Surgery cost 5-7 Lacs INR,

Immunosuppressant medicines of 12,000 to 20,000 INR.

• Major Surgery- 20 % patients loose their life due to complications.

• Patient is able to do only household chores • Acute rejection occurs in 10–25% of

people after transplant during the first 60 days.

• Post operative complication, bleeding, infection, vascular thrombosis and urinary complications.

• 75-year-old recipients (the oldest group for which there is data) gain an average four more years of life

Ayurvedic Medicine•Life long Medicine

•Nominal cost per month

•No such case with Ayurveda, herbal medicines are quite safe.•Patient is able to enjoy life.

•99% of the cases are able to take up our medicine, it just trust factor that works with Ayurveda.•No such complications with Ayurvedic Medicine

•Older patients also responds very well to the treatment & they live very well.
