CONGRATULATIONS – HEATHCOTE 9x5 ART EXHIBITION
Last term, the Grade 4/5/6 students, with guidance from Judy McGrath, completed some paintings that were
entered into the Heathcote 9x5 Art Competition. part of that exhibition is the People’s Choice Award.
A big congratulations to Zara Smith whose picture of her dalmation won the People’s Choice Award.
Maliqua Pearce was a very close second, both girls scoring close to 100 votes. Judy Hutchings came to
school yesterday to present Zara with her certificate and gift voucher.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
SCHOOL REVIEW
Today, our school conducted a Review Day as part of our self-evaluation of our last four years performance.
Myself, staff, School Councillors, past School Councillors, students and some others worked with accredited
School Reviewer Mike Rowland to look into all aspects of our last four years and subsequently set our
directions and goals for the next four years.
Thank you to parents, community members, school councillors and students who have provided a wealth of
feedback as part of the process.
GOLF DAY
Our big school and pre-school Golf Day is on Sunday 19th
October, next week. This event will help to raise
thousands of dollars for your child’s school so please consider being involved in one way or another.
At this stage entries are minimal, so if you are intending to enter a team, please do so asap to assist with
catering and planning.

raffles and golf prizes.

sell the raffle tickets provided late last term.

‘CUPPA & CHAT’
The Axedale Primary School ‘Parents, Volunteers & Friends Committee’ would like to invite you to an
informal ‘Cuppa & Chat’ next Tuesday 14th
October 9.30-10.30am in the Staff room.
A chance to catch up with other parents, and meet new families starting at our fabulous little school next
year.
It is not a meeting, so there’s no chance of you leaving with a job or having joined a committee! Just a
chance to become more familiar with the school, ask questions and say hello. Preschool children more than
welcome.

LEARNING DIARIES
If you haven’t already, please take time to look through your child’s work and make comment in the space
provided. Your comments are important to your children. Thank you to the Grade 4/5/6 parents who have
made comments on their student’s Digital Portfolios.
Learning Diaries need to be returned asap.
INTER SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Our annual Inter School Athletics Day is on Friday 17th
October. We will be participating with Eppalock PS
at the Bendigo Athletics Track in Flora Hill. Parents will be required to transport their children to and from
the venue.
Attached to the newsletter today is the Sports timetable and further information.
GRADE 4/5/6 BIKE HIKE
On Thursday 30th
and Friday 31st of October our Grade 4/5/6 students will be taking part in a two day Bike
Hike from Tallarook to Yea along the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
There is a meeting for staff, helpers and parents who will be on the ride on Tuesday 21st October at 5.30pm.
There will be a final meeting for all students involved and parents at 3.30pm on Monday 27th
October. We
will finalise all details and answer any final queries.
Students will start training next week so all students will require their bikes to be at school over the
next two weeks. Bikes will be locked up in the shed each night.
Aidan Esposito from Global Chiropractic and Rik McCaig (Bendigo Madison and former Sun Tour rider)
will be coming to the school over the next two weeks to talk to the students about nutrition, hydration,
stretching, recovery, bike set up etc as part of our preparation.
CAMELBACKS FOR SALE
Camelbacks were recently on sale at Anaconda. They are normally $63 but were on sale for $25 each.
School purchased 10 of these camelbacks and there is only one left so if you are keen to purchase it, be
quick!

Thank you to the Berry family for giving us lots of great books for the library and classrooms that they have
finished with at home. It is very much appreciated.
Thank you to Mick Hermens for changing the ride on mower blades and to Mick and Scott White for
mowing the oval.
Thank you also to the families who came to school over the holidays and watered our veggie patch. We hope
you enjoyed some tasty fresh produce.
BOOKCLUB ORDERS
Book club order forms went home on Tuesday night. They are due back at school by Wednesday 15th
October. Sorry no late orders this time.
BOOK FAIR
We will be hosting a “Buy 1, Get 1 FREE” Book Fair from the 24th
– 28th
November.

Annual Pet Show and Fashions held on Tuesday 4th
November, Melbourne Cup Day.

CLASSROOMS
BUDDY MATHS Yesterday our Gr. 2/3 and 4/5/6 students combined to teach each other the maths strategy games of ‘Get out
of My House’ and ‘Get the Cash’. These games were taught to staff at the Mike Ymer Professional
Development day. Students really enjoyed themselves and we plan on timetabling more buddy math sessions
in the future.
HERCULES PERFORMANCE
Yesterday the school children attended a vibrant
performance of Hercules at the Heathcote Hall.

COMMUNITY
AXEDALE TENNIS
Junior Tennis training will be held Friday night straight after school at the tennis courts. Any students
wishing to play can come along or contact Steve or Deb. Skill level can be anywhere from absolute beginner
to accomplished player.

FREE session for Hot Shots tennis on this Saturday 11th
October 10am-1pm at the Strathfieldsaye Tennis
