Dear Parents and Friends,
ATTENDANCE MATTERS ~ As you may be aware, the Government has issued strict new guidelines for pupil attendance. The expectation is that all pupils will achieve attendance levels of at least 96%. This half term, over 300 of our pupils have achieved this level or higher with 202 pupils having 100% attendance. This is great news ~ well done to you all! Nicky Armstrong, Admin & Personnel Manager
Article 28 Every child has the right to an education
Nursery Rhyme Dress-Up! On Tuesday 20 Nov the
reception classrooms became a wonderland of nursery
rhyme and traditional tale characters. We were
greeted by some scary, big bad wolves, a variety of
interesting animals, 7 Little Red Riding Hoods and lots
of other fantastic costumes! We’ve been working
really hard on all of our nursery rhymes and aside
from the initial stage fright, we performed six well-
known rhymes. The favourites from the audience
included “Three Blind Mice” and “I’m a Little Teapot”.
To end a great day we enjoyed eating our delicious
gingerbread men that we busily made in the morning.
We’d like to thank all the parents/carers for the
wonderful costumes and for attending our first
reception performance. Mrs Siggins
Stepping Down ~ With the upcoming conversion to
Academy status, our youngest daughter Hermione leaving the
school last summer AND the fact that I’d been a governor for just over
14 years I have decided to step down as Chair of Governors (and a governor) of MSJ.
It has been a very difficult decision and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Mr Herbert, the Senior Leadership team, all the staff,
fellow governors and PFA in making our school the school that we all love.
I am very proud of what has been achieved over those 14 years and I’m pleased to be handing over the Chair to Andrew Swain, current Vice-Chair who is supported by a very able governing body. As well as thanking Mr Herbert, Mrs Angiolini and all the staff for their support, I’d like to thank all parents and pupils for their support too. I had a lovely send-off from my fellow governors Tuesday night after my final Full Governing Body meeting (I shall treasure my MSJ cuff-links!) and was very touched by Mr Herbert’s and the children’s kind words this morning in assembly. Thank you for my giant card and “trophy”!
I’m not totally leaving as I am continuing as a Founder member and Director of the Bournemouth Septenary Trust when we all convert to academies on 1st December and will still be meeting with Mr Herbert and Andy Swain on a regular basis. Living just around the corner, Julie and I will ensure we support the Christmas and Summer fayres too! With kind regards from Simon Cull
Simon Cull steps down as Chair of Governors ~ After 14 years serving MSJ as a Governor and 4 years as Chair of Governors, it is with great sadness that we are
saying goodbye to Simon Cull.
Simon’s commitment to his role as Governor has been second to none. He has been a tremendous support to the school and has provided the necessary challenge to the
leadership that has helped MSJ perform highly and be a great school. We are very grateful to Simon for his time and energy at endless evening meetings, helping to look after and
improve our school. He will be greatly missed.
I am pleased to welcome Mr Andy Swain as our newly elected Chair of Governors. Andy has been a past pupil of the school and a Governor for 6 years. He is looking
forward to taking MSJ forward as an Academy that provides an outstanding education
for all. Academy Update ~ Our plans to convert to Academy Status have been delayed by 1 month due to some legal and land ownership issues affecting the other schools in the Bournemouth Septenary Trust. The new date for Conversion will be 1 December 2015.
