Do not be anxious in what needs to get done but give thanks to God.
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And
the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The building is bustling. Painters, contractors, roofers and
plumbers are busy getting our roof fixed, upgrading our HVAC
systems, and generally getting the building ready to be put back to
daily use. The next time you see our Facilities Manager, Danny
Lange, or any of our trustees; Mick Sears, Skipper Lay, and Larry
Hermann, make sure to give them a high five! They have put in a
tremendous amount of time and energy in making sure that this
facility has everything we need to move forward. We hoped that all
the construction would be done by now, but our unusually hot summer
has put everyone behind schedule. Thanks to each of you for your
grace.
In the meantime, our Open Door Ministries continue to thrive under
the leadership of Michael Harris. Boys and Girls Club and Bend
Montessori are having a great summer with the kids in our building,
and the rest of your staff is busy laying plans for the fall and
winter.
One of the most important lessons your leadership has taken from
this period in history is that our building, here in the heart of
downtown Bend, is a gift from God. We have listened to the larger
community and will be expanding our ministry to children and
families in the coming years by providing space for affordable
childcare. We will also be working more closely with the Homeless
Leadership Coalition to make sure that we do not duplicate
services, but enhance the work of our community partners to relieve
the plight of the poor. The expanded hours for our mail ministry
are an example of how we have listened and responded to those
needs.
In addition, Chuck Hemingway has done a marvelous job of getting
the new non-profit, Central Oregon Villages (COV), off the ground
and running. This non-profit is exclusively focused on providing
transitional housing for those currently houseless. We will have
more information about COV in the coming months, but we are excited
to finally make this vision a reality.
Last but certainly not least, we will be offering worship in our
beautiful sanctuary in September. We know that many of you are not
ready to be in a large space with many people. Thus, your worship
team will be offering expanded times and days for worship. We hope
to provide you with a variety of opportunities to be back in this
holy space.
Many Blessings, Pastor Jen
FOCUS: FLASHLIGHT AND BATTERIES
Why Stock Flashlights & Batteries? Every home should have
flashlights and extra batteries along with alternative sources
of
lighting at home, at work and in the car. The loss of electrical
power means the loss of much we take for granted: lights, food
storage and preparation equipment, radio, television, internet and
more. When disaster strikes, response plans will be activated but
the responding agencies
may not have enough resources to meet the needs of every
citizen.
WHAT TO DO:
• Shut off electrical power at the service panel if there is damage
to the house wiring. Disconnect damaged appliances. • If you
suspect there is a gas leak, do no use electrical switches or
appliances. Use of the switches may create sparks and cause a
fire.
• Keep clear of fallen power lines and, if possible, report the
location of the lines to the utility company. • If a power line
comes in contact with your automobile due to an earthquake or an
accident, stay in the car and wait for help. However, if your
safety is threatened by
fire or other life endangering situations, get out of the car
carefully, so that you 1) avoid touching wires; and, 2) avoid
simultaneous contact with the ground and the vehicle.

Bend Church Open Door Ministries The Open Door Ministries continue
to serve those in need each Wednesday morning and throughout the
week via mailroom services offered 5 days a week. Over the past few
weeks, the number of meals served each week has surpassed 100. The
ministry has an ongoing need for specific hygiene items such as
deodorant, razors, shaving cream, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. We
do NOT need shampoo, conditioner, or soap. We have a large supply
of these items on hand. Please consider getting a blue recycling
bag in the church office and donating your deposit-eligible cans
and bottles to the Open Door. It is an easy process wherein you
return your blue bag to a local Bottle Drop Center and the Open
Door receives the proceeds of your deposits. It is a great way to
support this ministry and give a dime!
The Free Store is asking for summer clothing donations such as
shorts and sundresses. In addition, the Free Store specifically
needs MENS pants with waist sizes of 30-34.
If you would like to volunteer for any section of the Open Door
Ministires, please email Micheal at

Why is the roof taking so long? Along with the unbearable
temperatures, our roofing contractors have run into a few snags.
These are pictures of the roof drains that were above the
classrooms that have had leaking issues for years. As you can see,
there was a fair amount of rot from the 1950's construction. This
had been covered over by four layers of roofing materials. By the
time you see this article the rotting boards and drains will have
been replaced! We cannot wait to show you the newly painted rooms
with no leaks.

ON FAITH AND RACE
Racism and oppression have a long and painful past and present. It
is an open, aching human wound that reflects a fracture in our
relationship with God. Understanding how it was promoted and is
still alive and acting out in the construct of our beliefs and
systems and structures is the beginning of caring for this wound.
In this series on faith and race we pray God would bring you hope,
renew your mind, enliven your spirit, and gift you with the virtues
of the Divine’s own heart. May God strengthen your stand, inspire
your movement towards God’s dream for humanity, and increase
Kingdom square footage with each step you make in Love.
This short film/discussion series will be led by Pastor Jen and
Pastor Nicole on Zoom,
Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30pm through the summer months.

A Message from Pastor Nicole
In the past year both of my children have begun music lessons. This
has been a wonderful part of our life as a family. We have enjoyed
hearing their progress. Their teachers do a beautiful job and it
has opened up more and more learning and conversations around
music. Whenever we drive in the car I play all kinds of songs for
them from different genres and we sing along and listen carefully
to the different parts. I thought it might be fun
this month to share some of our top songs. The truth is, music has
gotten us through difficult times. Simply put, it brings us closer
to each other and closer to God. I’d love to see your lists too!
