From The Desk of Father JonThe Theotokos as an archetype of ministryIf we look to the Virgin Mary as the archetype for ministry we can find numerous ways in which the Virgin Mary served the living God with such zeal for we cannot help but be inspired. From the very beginning she answered the call of the Archangel Gabriel. Thus, affirming her willingness to bear the savior of the world. She inspired Elizabeth her cousin just by being together with her as she bore the Lord's forerunner. The Theotokos in her love for God proclaimed the Magnificat, and became the one for whom all generation shall call blessed. It is the same love that the Virgin Mary had for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that brings us to the church during the first 15 days of August. We remember her devotion and her service to God for the entirety of her life as she approaches her Dormition. The Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary is firm rampart and a wall unshakeable for all those who flee unto her for refuge. Look is fervently ask for her intercessions before Christ our God during the Paraklesis service, for she is the one with the motherly favor. Our Panagia served God in the Temple in Jerusalem from age 3 to 14 as she prepared herself for service like no other the world has ever known. She was betrothed to Joseph who was her great uncle when she left the temple. After she bore the Christ child, she raised him in love and devotion as she grew up in spiritual beauty. She ministered to the physical and spiritual needs of Jesus until he was ready for ministry to the world. In all my years as a priest, I have never known a service that gives me such joy as the ones we do during this time of year. Please join us for the Paraklesis as we express our love for the Panagia. Please write the names of the living clearly in English or Greek on the enclosed page, so that we may pray for them.
Giving back to the communityWe have two excellent ways to get back to our community in August. On August 22 Saturday we can volunteer to help paint a Habitat for Humanity home. Or we can sign up for the CPR class here at church. Please call Christina Mount to volunteer to paint. Please call Koula Katsikis to learn CPR. God bless you all in the new ecclesiastical year!

From Barbara Reynolds,Parish Council President
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Hopefully our earlier summer hours are giving you more time to spend on Sundays relaxing with family and friends. Summer is also a chance for the activities to slow down in our church giving us time to regroup before the start of the Ecclesiastical New Year in September. If you would like to be a part of an existing ministry when things get started in the fall or you would like to suggest starting a new ministry please let me or any member of the Council of Ministries know. See the areas in the Parish Ministry Teams on page 2 where we need volunteers. Please prayerfully consider speaking to Fr. Jon if you are interested in filling any of these openings.
In the fall we will also be talking about activities on completing a Strategic Plan for both our Metropolis and for St. Nicholas. So you will see many exciting activities in the fall. We would like to see all of our parish participating in the many ministries of our church.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and come back excited to start the new Ecclesiastical year in September with your church family.
In His service, Barbara

Joy/Hope wishes everyone a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall when we kick off our calendar of activities for the next year."
Youth CatechismCourtney Malahias
“One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:28:31
Welcome back to a new ecclesiastical year! I hope you have had a wonderful, restorative summer! We look forward to seeing your smiling faces in Sunday Church School. The bible verse above will be our central theme this year throughout our classrooms. What better lesson for our children than to learn to love the Lord and your neighbor. Kindness matters. Projects and lessons will center on this topic. We are very excited!
Our first day of class will be August 30th. For our first day of class, we will meet briefly in the
church hall and then break out into our classrooms. Classes will begin right after communion and last 30-45 minutes. You can register your child right in their classroom.
Thank you for all you do! If you would like to be a part of this beautiful ministry, please contact me at [email protected]
Remember…………………… We need U in CH RCH!
Grateful to be in His service,

Miscellaneous
On April 29th, 2015 there was an article in the Star News about a film called “Hidden Epidemic” and it had a picture of Margie Devoles who was a local actor in the film. The film was made in 2013 before Nicholas had his kidney failure and Marge became his caregiver. The film has been shown locally before but the filmmaker put the article in now since it was to be shown again on UNC-MX locally in May of 2015. Someone read the article and called Margie and asked her to attend an event that would occur for a day and one evening, but Margie told her that she could not because of Nicholas’s illness. Margie explained that she filmed it in 2013 and not recently, but the article did not state when it was filmed. That is why Margie wanted anyone in the church who read this article and had any concerns to know that she is not pursuing acting now, and because of Nicholas’s illness we are unable to attend church functions.

The Virgin Mary (Panagias) is a Marian feast of the Christian Churches, celebrated with great pomp in many parts of the country and is called "Easter summer".
Every year, the day is dedicated to the Asumption day. It is not mourning but acelebration of joy and elation to the xanagkaliasma mother with her beloved son.
