SIP raises a glass the lazy days of summer with two of our favorite wines from the Anderson Valley Pinot Festival Grand Tasting.

Held by the Anderson Valley winegrowers Association, this year’s grand tasting celebrated the 30th anniversary of the first Anderson Valley designate Pinot Noir. They celebrated in style with over 50 producers pouring Anderson Valley Pinot Noir and a dozen local restaurants sharing delicious bites.

We had our work cut out for us to find the finest bottles to bring back to the shop. We hope you enjoy these two gems from Anderson Valley.

Wine Club Member Raffle When wine club members stop by SIP this month and pick up their favorite bottle, they will have a chance win a ticket to our next Wine Education Seminar.

Toulouse Vineyard Vern and Maxine Boltz own this 17-acre vineyard planted with 4 clones of Pinot Noir (Dijon Clones 115, 667, 777, & Wadensville 2A) in 1998. Witching Stick 2012 Pinot Noir Dowser’s Cuvee, Anderson Valley

About Witching Stick Founded by winemaker Van Williamson, Witching Stick specializes in small-lot, boutique wines from unique sites. Like a stick to water, Van’s intuition has guided him to the best vines, atop hillsides and along ridges, to produce wines that are consistently surprising.

The Vineyards The Dowser’s Cuvee is a blend of Pinot Noir sourced from Anderson Valley & Mendocino Ridge. With most of the fruit coming from the colder end of the valley, this wine boasts the brightness of fruit from that region and the fruit from the warmer end adds a fun spiciness.

• 44% Akin Vineyard • 33% Wiley Vineyard • 11% Cerise Vineyard • 12% Gianoli Vineyard

Tasting Notes This Cuvee achieves a profound complexity and depth of character. The core aroma is sweet pomegranate, but a range of scents from ripe apples, citrus, cherries and nectarines, to white pepper, bacon, smoke, vanillin, oceanic saltiness, and toasty oak emerge.

Alcohol: 14% Aged: 19 months in 27% in New French Oak pH: 3.74 Total Acidity: 0.58 Cases: 426 Winemaker Van Williamson Winemaker James MacPhail
