The Dusty Torus
At about 100 light years from the singularity we detect a “Donut”composed of dust and gas, the donut is called the molecular torus.
A very similar feature has been detected by the Hubble Space Telescope in the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4261.
The Torus is optically thick:
That is if located along the line of sight it absorbs the light coming from the internal regions and only the emission of the torus itself, mainly in the Infrared, and the emission coming from the outermost regions can be detected
