My name is Jamee Schleis and I graduated from Green Bay East High School with the Class of 2014. During my high school career I am thankful to have had the opportunity of being a three sport athlete participating in volleyball, basketball and softball. When I look back on the four years I spent at East High, the first thing that comes to mind are the twelve seasons that brought so many memories and people into my life that will never be
forgotten. The unbelievable fans that followed us everywhere with the big red wooden E. Sports arenʻt just an after school activity, they are a way of life. I think this can be said by almost anyone who has ever been able to be part of a team. I have seen friends and teammates with my own two eyes become a whole new person because of what sports has given them. I have also seen the same change in myself. I learned a little something called character; building character is part of being a true athlete. I was lucky to have an athletic director and softball coach that got me involved in all sorts of leadership opportunities. Without those opportunities, I donʻt believe I would have learned how to be a true athlete. Growing up you always think being a good athlete means you have to have good physical skills and win. You never thought of how much more it was then that. Donʻt get me wrong, winning is a great thing and looking good while doing it is too, but sports are so much more than that. Sports and being an athlete is a true test of character. It requires you to make choices on the things you have control over and the amount of effort you put into every practice and game. The attitude you carry with you in whatever you do both on the field and off the field. The example you set for your teammates every day wherever you are. You constantly are having to make good choices, but when you do make a mistake you have to be able to take full responsibility for your actions. You have to learn how to be a good teammate and know that you win together and lose together. Play to not let your teammates down; not yourself. High school sports eventually come to an end; what you do with the friendships, leadership skills and character you have built over the four years is up to you. I honestly believe I wouldnʻt be the person I am today if I had chosen to go elsewhere and not East High. The staff, students, and coaches led me down the right path just to become an overall better person. I cannot thank East High School sports enough for that experience. Today I continue both my academic and athletic career at Winona State University in Minnesota where I am double majoring in Business Administration and Human Resources while minoring in Business Management. I also have the tremendous honor of playing college softball. Thank you East High School sports for allowing me to realize what a true athlete is, and please support the East Athletic Endowment Funds.
Regards,
Jamee SchleisClass of 2014
