The Arconics Aircraft Software Platform

Mobile commerce is growing exponentially every year. Soon, the vast majority of transactions and time online will be from mobile devices. This presents extraordinary opportunities for airlines. Few other industries have the customer insight, loyalty and trust that airlines have earned. No other industry has comparable uninterrupted time with their customers while delivering service.

The smartest airlines understand that mobile apps will extend engagement with customers far beyond the in-flight experience. Passengers will install airline mobile apps to access entertainment and information services onboard. When thoughtfully designed, passengers will use those mobile apps as a trusted source of travel-related products and services after the flight and on future journeys.

Relevant offers presented at the right time are a valuable service for the passenger, and an opportunity for the airline to capture a portion of all

spend over the entire trip, opening repeat revenue streams and deeper brand engagement.

Mobile technologies can also help airlines reduce costs, improve efficiency, and increase safety and compliance. Crew, flight ops, engineering and ground ops make smarter, safer decisions by having the right information at their fingertips on mobile devices. In the cockpit, EFB brings huge savings by reducing fuel consumption and turnaround times, and improving operational efficiency.

In the cabin and on the ground, connected apps increase operational efficiency by replacing slow and error-prone paper-based processes. Connecting staff across the airlines improves passenger experience by helping to recover service issues before they escalate.

As passenger expectations increase, mobile devices are evolving too fast for traditional aviation technology to keep pace. The airlines that win will

The Arconics Platform is an open software platform that runs on multiple avionic systems, providing end-to-end communications, control, data management, tracking and analytics capabilities

be those that can develop the technical, operational, and commercial flexibility to seize these new opportunities.

The Arconics Aircraft Software Platform is designed for the connected aircraft. The Platform hosts onboard applications for cockpit and cabin. It provides a comprehensive set of APIs to facilitate: Data transfer on/off the aircraft. Data channel management, routing data via

satcom, 4G and physical media. Application deployment across the fleet. ARINC 717 and 429 databus access. Integration adaptors for popular airline systems.

The Platform also allows mobile apps to exchange data securely. This is available for both iOS and Windows tablet devices. The Platform runs on all popular aircraft servers.

The Arconics Aircraft Software Platform helps airlines to develop and deploy mobile apps for passengers and crew in weeks instead of years. It allows the airline to quickly deliver service differentiation, operational efficiencies, better use of data, and new ancillary revenue opportunities.

Arconics believes that an integrated mobile strategy will separate the best from the rest over the coming five years. We are determined to give our customers the unified, open enterprise platform for mobile apps that they will need to succeed

for every fleet size, any aircraft mix

When pilots have the right information at the right time, they make smarter and safer decisions. When flight ops, engineering and ground ops know what’s happening to the aircraft in real-time, they can respond quickly and reduce operational costs.

EFB applications have evolved rapidly in recent years. Low-cost tablets have made EFB technology accessible to all airlines, but current EFB solutions typically require multiple standalone applications which must be managed and updated separately. Because standalone apps cannot share data, flight crew are forced to toggle between applications and re-key data between apps, which takes time, reduces focus and introduces errors.

AeroEFB is an integrated suite of EFB apps that provide completely centralised management, end-to-end security, sharing of data across modules, and rapid access to the right information for flight crew and ground staff.

AeroEFB runs on web, iOS, and Windows devices and can publish to Type A, B and C, Portable and Installed EFBs. AeroEFB mobile apps work

completely offline to allow access to all documents and functions in-flight. Information is stored securely on the device, and synchronised with ground servers over any available network connection, including satcoms, wifi or 3G/4G. Early access to flight plans, and ability to complete forms and reporting in-flight, increases efficiency and reduces duty times.

AeroEFB can be integrated with aircraft data systems and ground control using ARINC protocols, enabling dynamic updates and reporting. AeroEFB delivers FCBP (Flight Crew Briefing Packs) to crew devices. The system captures flight-related data from the crew during flight and returns the data to the ground systems in XML format. Our software provides the secure management and controlled distribution of briefing items such as OFPs (Operational Flight Plans), NOTAMs, Weather and Flight Logs.

AeroEFB delivers on the promise of digital and the benefits of the paperless cockpit, giving pilots the world’s most effective tools and the best possible flight experience.

Document ManagementThe safety and compliance document

management system for aviation

Airline document management is a formidable challenge, with complex interrelated documents, specialised revision and approval cycles and a rapidly-changing regulatory environment. The fastest-growing aircraft operators understand the strategic importance of being able to quickly and consistently roll out new procedures across cultures and continents.

XML offers significant benefits to this process. For crew, it promises a step change in functionality, with better search, faster access to data, persistent highlights and annotations, and faster downloads. For authors and document owners, XML technology can speed editing by automating routine tasks and allowing smart sharing and reuse of data across documents. The entire enterprise benefits from higher levels of consistency, quality and compliance.

Imagine a system that was designed from the ground up for managing aircraft and airline documents. That’s AeroDocs DMS.

AeroDocs DMS delivers regulatory compliance with simple, web-based, collaborative authoring of XML documents. Secure document storage, access

control, audited distribution and smart sharing, and reuse of data across the airline come simply. The platform gives all users - airline operations, external partners and regulators - access to documents with fast search facilities and offline viewing capabilities.

Airline administrators get real-time visibility and control of the distribution process, ensuring that all devices are updated and that all staff have access to the current document versions. AeroDocs maps your documents to regulations to ensure regulatory compliance, minimise the operational overhead, and assure accuracy and consistency of information across all systems.

AeroDocs is available as a tiered solution, with an easy upgrade path:

AeroDocs CONTROL - Fast and effective paperless cockpit deployment with document tracking.

AeroDocs COMPLIANCE - Nextgen collaboration, compliance management and XML editing.

AeroDocs ENTERPRISE - Self-hosted, fully-customised solution with benefits from cockpit to boardroom.

Revision Management

AeroDocs allows operators to forensically trace and track when, why and how a document was changed. Changes to a document can be linked to specific change requests, making it easy to track the complex, overlapping changes that characterise a document revision cycle.

Regulatory Tracking

The ability to demonstrate regulatory compliance is a core requirement for any airline. AeroDocs makes it simple to demonstrate to the regulatory authorities how an operator’s manuals, procedures and checklists are used to promote compliance.

Workflow

Flexible workflow management allows complete control over how a document moves through the editing, review and publication cycle. Notifications, task management and escalation procedures are fully configurable.

Data Reuse and Sharing

Once a document has been written, all the document’s components are added to the content library and are available for sharing across multiple publications. A range of options exist for propagating updates to shared content.

AeroDocs Editor

At the core of AeroDocs is the AeroDocs Editor. This is a constrained XML editor which provides appropriate templates to guide the user during editing operations. AeroDocs provides a rich set of aviation-specific components such as MEL items, dispatch conditions, challenge-response sequences and operations procedures.

Effectivity

A distribution group can be associated with one or more effectivity tags so that its library relates to a particular subgroup of the overall fleet. Readers can also select by effectivity when searching their personal collections.
