Anhui Province was set up in the sixth year of Kangxi Reign of Qing Dynasty (1667). “Anhui”,
the name of the province, comes from the combination of the first character of two prefectures' names
at that time: Anqing and Huizhou. Because there was a mountain called “Wan Mountain” and an
ancient nation named “Wan” in Spring and Autumn period in Anhui (722 BC–481 BC), “Anhui” is
also called “Wan” for short. The Anhui region was one of the earliest areas in the Yangtze basin to be
settled by Sinitic peoples. Many of the current linguistic and cultural traits of the region were shaped
during the Nan (Southern) Song period (1127–1279), particularly the characteristic conservatism of
language and art forms. A number of separate regional subcultures continue to exist, including
the Huizhou culture from the region around Shexian, renowned for its commercial and clan traditions.

Hui-style Culture
Hui-style Architecture
Hui(zhou)-style architecture is one of the
traditional Chinese architecture styles, which
prevailed mostly in the historical Huizhou
prefecture of Anhui, China as a critical element
of Huizhou culture. The architecture uses bricks,
woods and stone as raw materials, timber frames
as significant structures. The bearing structure is
a wooden beam, and parapet walls are made of
bricks, rocks, and soils. The central room is
decorated with painted beams, sculpted roof, and
carved eaves with skylights. The technical
features and style of Hui-style architecture
majorly occur in residential houses, ancestral
temples, joss houses, archways, memorial gates,
and gardens. The architecture reflects
mountainous features of the area and a geomantic
omen of traditional Chinese religions.

Huangshan is a mountain range in southern
Anhui province in eastern China. As “the loveliest
mountain of China”, lies in the south of Anhui
province in eastern China. It was called Yishan
Mountain in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), and got
its current name in 747 during the Tang Dynasty
(618-907). Huangshan Mountain is renowned for its
magnificent natural scenery, which includes massive
granitic boulders and ancient pine trees that are often further enhanced by cloud and mist effects. This
dramatic landscape includes formations of natural stone pillars, grotesquely-shaped rocks, waterfalls,
caves, lakes and hot springs, formed by its complex geological history. Over the past 40 years,
Huangshan tourism has achieved a historic leap from scratch, becoming a benchmark city for China's
tourism, a world-class tourist destination, and a wonderful and vivid epitome of China's reform and
opening up. Today, Huangshan City receives nearly 3 million overseas tourists every year.
