IntroductionThe Woodstock Music & Art Fair was a music
festival that took place at 69 km southwest of the town of Woodstock (NY) in 1969.
Planned August 15-17 but ran over 18 morning.
The FestivalBefore the event, 50 000 people were expected, but 186 000 tickets were sold and organizers anticipated around 200 000 people.
Finally, they were more than 450 000 and the festival turned free at the end of the first day.
32 artists performed over the 4 days.
The rain caused muddly roads and fields.
Because of people trying to join, and then leave, it created the biggest trafic jam of the USA history.
A movie was made : Woodstock (Micheal Wadleigh & Martin Scorcese) - 1970
Despite the very massive crowd, it was 4 days of peace and music (no riots or looting).
Organizers lost a lot of money after the festival.
The festival is now considered as one of the most important festival and music event of all times.
