THE DYERVILLE GIANT when measuredin 1972, stood 362 feet tall which is 200 feet tallerthan Niagara Falls or comparable to a 30-storybuilding. It had a circumference of 52 feet, fourinches and a crown spread of 74 feet and weighedmore than a loaded 747 jumbo jet (1,000,000 lbs). The Dyerville Giant’s crown is now in pieces, butthe tree’s final height has been estimated at about370 feet, certainly within several feet of havingbeen the tallest tree in the world.

Even for those who saw it when it was still stand-ing, its size is difficult to comprehend. TheDyerville Giant was recognized as the“Champion” Coast Redwood as certified by theAmerican Forestry Association until it fell onMarch 24, 1991. Experience it during your visit tothe Founder’s Grove, just north of Weott, southof Redcrest off Dyerville Loop Road.
