I I hope this newlsetter finds you well in Region IV! This has been a very busy time
as our region prepares to bring you a week of informative speakers and com-
petitions to test your skills in April! The American Criminal Justice Association,
Lambda Alpha Epsilon 2013 National Conference in Valley Forge is scheduled
for April 21-26, 2013 with the theme: Terrorism Domestic and Abroad. Speakers
will include topics such as forensic linguistics, the Una-bomber case, mass hos-
tage school takeovers and shootings, internet crime and more. The conference
is being held at the Valley Forge Radisson Hotel and Casino and members pre-
registration cost is $160 before March 29, 2013; rooms are $114.40 per night (single through quad).
More information on the conference can be found on the National website: www.acjalae.org.
Just after the regional conference in October, our region was impacted by Superstorm Sandy.
Many of you were impacted, and I hope not too badly. New Jersey and New York seem to have
been the worst hit, but almost the entire region suffered some type of impact. My husband, member
Mike Young, worked with the fire dept through the storm just as I did as a police officer. We both
also worked through Hurricane Irene which actually hit our immediate area a little harder than Sandy
did. While working the storm, we received pictures and updates over text message on the fam-
ily beach house at the Jersey Shore in Ocean City. The Young family beach house sits about 4-5 ft
above ground, and while we ended up with 10-12 inches of water
in the Ocean City house, we were lucky compared to many neigh-
bors and other areas of the Jersey Shore. Neighbors whose homes
were built on concrete slabs at ground level lost everything. Many
neighbors, all of which were year round residents of the island, did
not heed evacuation orders. While they were lucky to come out of
the storm alive, they were also able to text message us pictures as
the storm surge struck the area. The pictures were a horrifying and
saddening and a sobering reminder of mother nature’s capabilities.
I hope all of you affected by the storm are re-building and remaining
strong. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Take care brothers
and sisters, and see you April!

Vice President’s ReportJoe Walsh
Hello Everyone!
I hope that you are all doing well. I am very excited that I was recently elected the regional vice president. I look forward to serving in this capacity. Jen and I have been busy recently preparing for our wedding which takes place a week prior to the National Conference! We decided to wait until May to go on our honeymoon so that we won’t miss the conference. I hope that you are all planning to attend the National Conference in April. I am sure that you will enjoy yourselves in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. I am working hard to prepare an interesting presentation on internet crime and computer forensics that will be offered at the conference. Please feel free to call or email me if there is anything I can help you with. I look forward to seeing all of you at the National Conference!!
Joe Walsh

Chapter News
This has been a busy and exciting year for COPS. Member Danielle Follosco accepted a job with the Aberdeen, Maryland Police Dept. in January and resigned from her 4+ year position with the Perryville, Maryland Police Dept. Danielle also was accepted to and began Law School! Member Heather Toth started her police career with the Bethel, Pennsylvania Police Department as a part-time officer on February 1st. We are very proud of Danielle and Heather, congrats! To add to the trend of COPS members getting engaged, we can now add member Amanda Hayes and her now fiance Gennaro Marzocco AND members Todd Istenes and Amanda Morgan to the list! Just a week apart both couples announced their engagements. Congrats and best wishes to both couples who are added to the list of COPS members engaged/ married in the last year: Mike Young and Nicci (Koban) Young (married July 2012), Jennifer Walsh and Joe Walsh (April 2013 wedding), Diana Bauer and Nick Wightman (June 2013 wedding), and Stephan Crane and his fiance Laura McDonald (April 2013 wedding). Members Ashley and Ryan Wilkens wel-comed their second child, Alana Grace Wilkins, in January just months after Ryan’s return from deployment with the Navy. Alana joins 2 year old brother Jake. Ryan and Ashley met at the 2006 ACJA/LAE Regional Conference in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Congrats to the Wilken’s family and all the COPS couples who have had an exciting year! In January our chapter held our 5th Annual Scrapbook fundraiser and raised $500 to help our memebrs attend regional and national conferences. COPS raffled off a handmade LAE afghan and hand painted LAE glass mug in October at the Danville Regional Conference and made ap-proximately $300. Look for more of the same at Nationals! COPS will be raffling off a second afghan, and embroidered LAE bag, and more awesome items in April. As always, COPS is welcoming new student and professional members. If you are interested in joining COPS, email Nicci Young at [email protected].
