INTRODUCTION TO ALLTONE SHUTTERS
Alltone is a specialist manufacturer and importer of premium quality, custom-made
shutters and venetian blinds, established on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast since 1988.
QUALITY AND SERVICE Alltone enjoys a reputation for excellence. In manufacture locally and in overseas
factories we blend the best elements of technology and handcrafted techniques,
combined with sophisticated quality control systems. This ensures the creation of
finished products that are beautiful, functional and consistent in their quality.
We select methodologies and components to utilise in manufacture based on their
performance and aesthetic merits. In doing so, we offer unique features, which our
customers can use to sway their customers to buy from them, versus a competitor.
This philosophy enables our customers to win more profitable business by competing
on product features and benefits.
At Alltone we take pride in our product, service and co-operative relationship we have
with our customers…
• Orders are acknowledged with estimated delivery dates within days of receipt of
emailed or faxed orders
• We double-check any ambiguities by telephone
• As a general rule our average turn-around time from placement of order is less than
2 weeks for blinds, 5-8 weeks for imported timber or composite shutters and 6-9
weeks for imported aluminium shutters. This varies according to the finish required,
stock holdings and current capacity. We make every effort to minimise the wait for
your customer… please do not hesitate to call to obtain an estimated turnaround at
any time.
• If things don’t go well … we will make every attempt to fix the problem speedily and
with minimal disruption to customers (regardless of who is at fault)
WHOLESALE ONLYAlltone is strictly a wholesale company. We do not sell directly to consumers, nor do
we compete with our retailers by making our products available on the web.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF SHUTTERS
Control of the environment
Shutters are designed to provide variable control of light and ventilation in a home.
They offer insulation from the harsh summer sun, protection from the effects of
sunlight for furnishings in the room, and heat retention in the winter.
Shutters do not provide 100% light blockage. Slight variance between blades,
especially on wider panels, can allow some light seepage, as can gaps around the
panels (depending on the installation method).
Privacy
Shutters afford adjustable privacy when required, whilst maintaining an open feel
in the room, unlike many window coverings that make rooms feel claustrophobic
when drawn. In addition, shutters have an ability to dampen vibrations and reduce or
confine noise.
Enhance Decor
Shutters have a unique, distinctive look that will enhance décor by providing elegance,
colour, style and richness to the overall appearance and add value.
Versatility of use
Shutters are suitable for installation in a range of modes, (sliding, bi-fold, hinged or
fixed). This means that shutters are suitable for door openings, for windows, and as
room dividers

NOT ALL BASSWOOD SHUTTERS ARE CREATED EQUAL...
Basswood Timber Shutters
Basswood is a light, strong, sturdy timber with an attractive, fine texture, enabling
finished shutters with a uniform, smooth finish. Due to superior dimensional stability of
the timber, Basswood shutters are stable, durable, resistant to warping, and not easily
affected by heat. Basswood panels can be made larger and wider than heavier materials
(such as MDF or PVC shutters), with less risk of sagging or blades bowing. In operation
they feel firm and secure, giving the user the impression of luxury, much like a solid,
well-made item of timber furniture.
Like timber furniture, Basswood shutters if dampened can be wiped dry, but should
not be allowed to sit in water; particularly at the joints and where deep holes are bored
to accommodate blade pivots or other components. Water damage is potentially the
only issue affecting a well-made Basswood shutter. The fear of this is why many PVC
shutters are sold. However, where there is little risk of water egressing onto the shutters,
Basswood shutters are superior to PVC in terms of strength, aesthetics and applicability.
Our aim is to manufacture consistently superior quality Basswood shutters. We achieve
this by:
• Components moulded and jointed on site from dried, cured lumber to ensure full
control of quality. This level of control can’t be achieved in most factories, where pre-
formed and coated components are used.
• Unique procedure of routing the stile to rebate rail and Mortise & Tenon joint, is a
unique feature to eliminate visible paint cracking between the stile and rail.
• Allocating time to detailing shutters, to ensure the best possible end result.
• In the component stage, we fill and sand every component carefully during each step
of the process.
• After assembling, we seal, fill and finish all surfaces of the panel including the edges of
the blades, and top and bottom of the shutters.
• We paint with the best quality 2 pack
Polyurethane paint, which is not widely used in
China, as it is expensive. We believe it is worth
the cost as we achieve a long lasting, high quality,
plump, opulent, smooth finish.
• This painting process requires highly skilled painters.
• Due to the superior finish we demand, our painters average 30 panels a day, whereas
other factories target 50 a day.
• Finally, we invest in quality control, we have QC
staff in all steps of manufacturing to assure our
products are virtually free from defects.
• The final quality check is done in several different
rack and lighting configurations to ensure visible
flaws are found in the factory, not in the home.
• Mid Rail Required for Panels over 1800 and advised for most Bi-hinged or Bi-fold (max
height 2.1m)
• Split Controls over 1m
• Standard Frames, Fascia etc. up to 4.5m

• Smooth, durable finish which is easy to clean without chemicals or detergents
• Highly resistant to oxidative reactions, maintaining its performance for a long time.
• Superior fire retarding properties since it is not ignited easily and furthermore, the
heat released in burning is considerably lower with PVC, when compared with those
for PE and PP. PVC therefore contributes much less to spreading fire to nearby
materials even while burning.

THE BENEFITS OF WESTERN RED CEDAR SHUTTERS
Western Red Cedar has been proven over many years, to be the timber of choice for
shutters. Not only does it convey luxury and opulence, it is a lightweight, straight-grained
timber. WRC has unrivalled dimensional stability benefits for the installation of large
panels with less strain on the supporting structure, and less chance of warping of shutter
components.
Western Red Cedar is known for its longevity due to a naturally occurring resistance
to moisture, decay and insect damage. Cedar shutters are very stable in moist or hot
conditions. WRC shutters reduce heating and cooling costs due to superior insulating
properties
MDF or Composite Shutters are approx. 35% to 40% heavier than Western Red Cedar
panels. Therefore, WRC panels span further without sagging or stressing hinges etc.
Wider panels with uninterrupted blades offer better views, are easier to clean, and less
work to adjust morning and night.

TOP & BOTTOM RAIL RANGE
Top and Bottom rail heights are usually in the same size, but when looking in the front
of the panel, the bottom rail appear to be 10mm higher than the top rail, due to the top
rail has a cut out section for blade over lapping in the front of the panel.
The factory will adjust the top and bottom rail height according to the height of the
panel to assure the top and bottom rails are in the right proportion with the panel
height. The table below is the top and bottom rail height range in the deferent height
of panels. However, under certain circumstances, such as to match the similar top and
bottom rail height in the same room, the factory may make the top and bottom rail
height deferent from the formula in this table.

MID RAIL SPECIFICATIONRAIL DESIGN
A mid-rail is required when panel height is or exceeds 1500 - 1800mm to add stability.
Two mid-rails are required for panels 2300mm or over. Mid Rail position is measured
from the bottom of the reveal to the center of the mid-rail. When ordering, please also
advise depth of cover required so that we can balance rails.
As a rule, top and bottom rails will be the same depth, unless they are matching
something. This may be a MR height; other panels in the same room, or when viewing
from the exterior of the building; or a previous order. If the rails are unequal depths,
in most cases the top rail will be smaller than the bottom rail. This rule is occasionally
broken for sliders (as a portion of the top rail is covered by the fascia), or in rare cases
when the match is difficult and critical. The larger the blade, the more difficult it is to
balance rails to match a given height, as adding or removing a large blade has a more
significant impact on rail depth.
In order to ensure strength and stabilities of the panels, Mid Rail is required when
Shutter panels reached to certain heights. The mid rail requirements vary from deferent
materials. PVC requires Mid Rail when panel height is or exceed 1500mm; Basswood
and Cedar require Mid Rail when panel height is or exceed 1800. Please refer to the
table below for the details

MID RAIL POSITION
Mid Rail position is measured from the bottom of the Shutters (including the bottom
frame). However, the Mid Rail position may not be in the exact spot as desired, it
varies from 19mm to 50.80mm depending on the size of blades. Please refer to the
table below.

CRITICAL MID RAIL POSITION
If the Mid Rail position is critical, please state in the “Special Instructions” in the
Order Form. However, critical mid rail position may incur in the bottom rail smaller
or much bigger then the top rail which might be not perfect for visual effects.

TILT ROD
There are two types of tilt rods, Centre Tilt Rod and concealed
Clearview Tilt Rod.
CENTRE TILT ROD
Centre Tilt Rod positioned in the middle of the panel. For bi-
fold Shutters linked with more than 2 panels, the Tilt Rod will
be one tilt rod size off the centre to allow the panels fold flat
against each other. Centre Tilt Rod made of PVC for all timber
and PVC Shutters, due to PVC’s advantage of stability.
OFFSET TILT ROD
Offset Tilt Rod will be placed 25mm from the edge of the
blade. And the Tilt Rod will be on the hinge side or the wall
side.
OFF CENTRE TILT ROD
Off Centre Tilt Rod means the Tilt Rod is installed 10mm off
the centre of the panel, towards the hinge side or the wall
side.
CLEARVIEW TILT ROD
The aluminium Clearview Tilt Rod is connected to the end
of the blade, and there is a cutout on the edge of the blade
where the Tilt Rod connected.
It is better not to link too many blades in one CV tilt rod. The
less number of blades linked to the CV tilt rod, the better
the blades will close. There is a limitation on the quantity of
blades for CV Tilt Rod, please refer to the chart below.
If the CV Tilt Rod exceeds the limitation, the factory will
automatically split the Tile Rod into two sections. If the blades
are in an odd number, the lower section will be the large
number.

Please see our Limited Liability Warranty.
Please unpack and inspect all items on receipt and prior to (travelling to) installation.
Alltone Blinds take a great deal of pride in producing a high quality product, and
shutter panels will be adequately packed for transport. On rare occasions, some
imperfections may be missed, or damage may occur in transit.
If for any reason goods need to be returned for repair/rectification work, they must be
correctly packed in the original packing materials to avoid further damage occurring
during the return journey.
Please do not fit products that require repair or rectification, as Alltone Blinds is not
able to warranty against incidental or consequential damages or any other direct or
indirect damage, loss, cost, expense or fee such as fitter’s charges or shipping charges
and costs for removing, disassembling, reassembling and re-installing.
Please notify Alltone Blinds of any issue asap after receipt, ideally email photographs
of the damage or fault. We have short time-limits of notification of transport damage
claims, plus we would like the opportunity of rectifying any issues as soon as possible
in order to minimise any inconvenience to you or your customer. Rectification orders
are given priority in our factory production schedule for this reason.
Blades are the most likely part of the shutter to suffer damage, particularly cracking
or splitting prior to, during or after installation. We stock finished spare blade lengths
of most materials and colours, so that damaged blades can be replaced quickly.
Please provide an exact blade length measurement to ensure the correct blade length
is supplied.
