Welcome
2 2010 Provincial Agricultural Service Board Tour Strathcona County… Rural Roots and a growing future 7
On behalf of Strathcona County and my colleagues on Council, it is my pleasure to welcome
you to our municipality. We are excited to host the 2010 Provincial Agricultural Service Board
Tour and are delighted to have this opportunity to showcase our diverse community.
Our theme for this tour is Rural Roots and a growing future, which aptly portrays the large
agricultural area of Strathcona County and the progressive attitude of our urban community.
We are unique in that we have one of the largest urban areas in Alberta that has grown from a
bedroom community to a thriving economic centre. We have a large agricultural area that has
small and large holdings, from hobby farms to major mixed operations. As well, through an
innovative partnership with our neighbours, we have developed a major industrial area ready to
respond to the needs of the petrochemical industry and beyond.
We are happy to be able to show you around, share our experiences and look forward to
learning from yours. The future of our communities remains tied to the economic prosperity of
the agricultural sector.
I hope you enjoy your tour with us.
