Term 1 Week 11 Thursday 9th April 2020

Learning from home going well I am so impressed with what our parents are managing to achieve with their children. The photographs, videos, communications and completed work are a testament to your commitment to education and positive learning outcomes for your children. Students are looking happy and well on their visits to school. We were even visited by a swan princess this week, which was a delightful surprise. See Princess Xarya pictured right. The home learning packs are going to continue into next term. Miss Fish and I will endeavour to create a booklet for each key learning area. This will minimise the number of loose sheets of paper and make working through the learning sequences easier. Sound waves books will also be sent home next term to support the consolidation of spelling patterns and grammar. Happy Easter- Easter is here once again. We hope that everyone has a quiet and safe Easter. Make sure you take it easy and enjoy the love and company that your family unit has to offer. If you know of those who are alone at Easter, a phone call,

package in the post box or wave and toot on the way past may make all the difference to their Easter.

Important events / Notices to remember Easter Holidays—Friday the 10th – 26th April School Development Day Monday the 27th April Unpaid Excursion fees are due. Last week’s completed work due for marking and

assessment.

Nina created some beautiful Easter craft this week. Free desk and chair- There are old classroom desks and chairs available at school. Students are welcome to take one of each to help set up a permanent learning space at home. These desks will be sent to the recycling if they are not claimed before the last week of the Easter holidays. Dojo messaging app for parents– Hopefully all parents have received an invitation to join the Class Dojo messenger app on their phones. It would be very helpful for us if you could join and download the messaging app. This will allow us to communicate with you quickly and conveniently. Lego Challenge– Last week on the back page of the newsletter was a Lego challenge. I also suggested if you don’t have Lego you can design and make using anything you may have around your home. I would love to see some photographs of your efforts. Stephanie created this lovely Easter basket.

Healthy Harold’s 5 tips for a happy and healthy Easter!

Easter is a season filled with yummy sweet treats! For many, the holiday is all about baskets filled with sugary chocolate eggs. When considering a healthy approach (for and your children), we don't advise depravation -

it will only result in binge eating later on.

Did you know that just one medium-sized (150g) bunny contains half of the recommended daily amount of sugar? With that in mind, here are our

top tips for a healthy Easter.

Don’t deprive yourself- This is very important, as deprivation often leads to bingeing later on. If you’re craving a slice of cake or some creamy chocolate, then go ahead and enjoy it – but remember to do so

mindfully.

Start the day right- You may not be able to control what's served at the lunch table, but you certainly can control what you eat when you wake up. Make a giant green smoothie so you load up on nutrients and fibre, or try a protein shake, eggs or try our delicious, fun and healthy purple

pancakes!

DIY- Don your aprons and make health(ier) cookies instead of chocolates and hand-decorated eggs are a great option staying on the Easter theme. While talking eggs, drop the chocolate for the Easter egg hunt and try some colourful & fillable plastic eggs, including a small toy or even a gold

coin for older children. The possibilities are endless.

Drink plenty of water- Drink a glass of water before you indulge in your meal in order to make you feel fuller, faster. Try a thin slice of cucumber

or lemon in your glass for a clean and refreshing twist.

Get Active- It's tempting to spend time away from school and work lazing about but why not get outside; visit a new park, enjoy some fresh air or

simply move.

Honey bunny biscuits They can can take any shape your children desire but cut into the shape of bunnies, these biscuits are a great alternative to chocolate at Easter. Read our 4 tips for a healthier Easter. Ingredients 250g butter at room temperature 1/2 cup honey 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 ½ cups plain flour 1/2 teaspoon salt Method 1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat butter and honey until thoroughly combined. 2. Mix in egg and vanilla. 2. Mix in flour and salt until combined. 3. Split mix into two, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for thirty minutes. 4. Preheat oven to 180C. 5. Remove first portion of dough from fridge and roll out on a floured surface to under a cm. 6. Cut dough into bunny shapes with cookie cutters (works equally well in other shapes) 7. Arrange biscuits on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. They won't rise very much, so they can be placed close together on the sheet. 8. Bake for 13 minutes or until the edges of the cookies begin to brown. 9. Cool biscuits on a cooling rack. 10. Roll out, cut, and repeat with the second half of the dough. This dough can be frozen for later use (up to 3 months).

Purple Pancakes These little pancakes are full of goodness and taste delicious! Oats and egg for protein and sustained ener-gy, banana and blueberries giving a boost in your fruit intake and providing essential vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and fibre. Better yet they're so simple, just chuck all of the ingredients in the blender and cook as normal. Ingredients (makes approx 6 pikelet size pancakes) 1 egg 1 medium banana 1/3 cup of rolled oats 1 handful of blueberries (frozen berries work great) small amount of olive oil (spray also works well) Method 1. Place all ingredients in a blender or small food pro-cessor. Blend until smooth. 2. Heat a non-stick pan to a medium heat and add a little olive oil (spray or oil) 3. Pour small amounts into the pan, about pikelet size, don't make them too big or they can be hard to flip (they are a little more delicate than a normal pancake). 4. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles appear. Gently flip and cook for another minute. 5. Serve with some extra cut up fruit such as strawber-ries and a drizle of 100% maple syrup or Greek yo-ghurt

Tip: why not swap blueberries for raspberries for pink pancakes! You can also replace the oats with almond meal or coconut flour to make them gluten free if needed.
