Preferred Administrators What’s ChangingBeginning January 1, 2014
Preferred AdministratorsThere are only two changes to the preferred administrators this year:
n Arizona: Changing from UnitedHealthcare to BlueCross and BlueShield of Texas (even if you don’t live in Texas).
n Core option: Changing from Aetna to the preferred administrator in your state — just as with the other medical options (Standard and Value).
Preferred administrators are identified on the map below. If your favorite health care provider doesn’t belong to the preferred administrator’s network in your state, you can choose another network administrator. Remember, you’ll pay less in monthly contributions for the same coverage, when you choose the preferred administrator (see page 5 for details).
Your preferred administrator will be based on the alternate address you have on file with American. No alternate address? No worries, we’ll use the permanent address you have on file. Check your address on file now.

n Enrolled in the Core option? Open an HSA (Health Savings Account) or change your HSA contribution at any time.
Value Option Out-of-Pocket MaximumThe in-network out-of-pocket maximum for the Value option will increase to $2,000/individual and $5,000/family.
HMO PlansThere are changes to the Kaiser and Community Care HMOs, including new deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. Look for information from your HMO.
Prescription Drug ChangeExpress Scripts is making a few changes to what’s currently covered today, and how it will be covered in 2014. Some prescriptions will move from preferred to non-preferred, and others from non-preferred to not covered.
During Annual Benefits Enrollment, use this link to see what’s covered and what’s not by your American medical options.
Something Extra
We’re pleased to announce new voluntary offerings: Accident Insurance, Critical Illness, Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) and more. See page 25 for all the details.
Health Care Cost Changes
You will see an increase in your monthly contribution costs for 2014 (see page 6). It’s important to understand our health care costs increased $40 million due to health care inflation and health care reform fees assessed by the government. However, American continues to pay 80% of the total costs.

Health Care Reform
Health Care ReformYou may be hearing about the public marketplace, government subsidies and tax penalties for not having health care coverage. And, you will be getting marketing from insurance companies directly to you.
So, what’s the bottom line? Everyone (with a few exceptions) in the United States will be required to have medical coverage or pay a tax penalty starting in 2014.
Find Your Way to the FactsWe’re providing you and your family with an online resource that will answer your basic questions about Health Care Reform: See the Health Care Reform Made Simple website (http://AAactives.hcrmadesimple.com) now and use the password active (or access the site from my.aa.com).
DOMA Update
As you’ve probably heard, there have been some important developments regarding married, same-sex couples, based on the recent Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA) ruling.
As a result, during Annual Benefits Enrollment, you may make the following dependent changes that will become effective in January 2014:
n Add a same-sex spouse and/or their child.
n Designate current same-sex domestic partner as a same-sex spouse.
n Designate a same-sex domestic partner.
Proof of eligibility requirements apply, including a legally valid marriage certificate, for same-sex spouses.
We continue to monitor further guidance from the federal government and will provide updates.

Health & Well-beingAmerican covers the majority of your health care costs. Managing those costs while balancing our budgets is a challenge we all face together.
Review Health Care CostsThe best strategy begins with making informed choices about your benefit options. We offer three medical options. The monthly contribution cost of these options will vary depending on the administrator you select.
You can choose between three administrators in your state — Preferred, Tier 1 and Tier 2.
The preferred administrator offers the best negotiated rates, that’s why you pay less per month. You will pay more for Tier 1 and Tier 2 administrators, but the only difference is the network of doctors. So, why pay more if your doctor is in the preferred administrator’s network?

Are you an American employee married to another American employee?Enroll in medical, dental and vision coverage separately or as a dependent.
Be sure to compare costs — you may save more if you enroll separately. If you’re already covered under your American spouse’s/domestic partner’s coverage, you need to waive dependent coverage before you can enroll for yourself.
You will have a separate HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) or HIA (Health Incentive Account) regardless of whether you choose separate or joint coverage.

Summary of Benefits and Coverage American Airlines is required to provide you the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (“SBC”) and the Uniform Glossary (“UG”). We’ve created a separate SBC for each of the self-funded medical benefit options that will become effective on January 1, 2014, and the UG applies to all these options. You can use the SBCs and the UG as quick references for what benefits are available in each option, and an explanation of terms used in benefit plans.
To access the SBCs and UG, go to Benefits Service Center when enrolling in medical coverage.
