We hope you’ve had the opportunity to explore Atchison County’s most comprehensive
online resource. If you haven’t, here’s a brief summary of what you’ll find at
www.atchisoncounty.org
First and foremost: FIND A BUSINESS. While word
of mouth might be the most common search
engine in rural communities, we’ve created an
online tool that will help you find what you need in
Atchison County. You can either Search Listings
by keyword (flowers, inspection, food) on the Find
a Business page, or utilize the main search box at
the top of each page.
Atchison County at your fingertips!

Sometimes we forget all the ways
#ACisAwesome. At ACDC, we work
hard to Change the Conversation
from one that tells our kids to find
a better future elsewhere to one
that highlights what we have and
shows them that they can build their
futures here. Our Annual Meeting
gives us the opportunity to put all
that good stuff front and center.
In addition to our celebration of this place we call
home, we are fortunate to have as our guest
speaker Becky Cleveland, Executive Director of
the Brookfield Area Growth Partnership and former
president of the Missouri Economic Development
Council. Becky is recognized statewide as champion
of rural community/economic development. Her
message of growing our rural communities through
strong local and regional partnerships is one you
won’t want to miss!

ACDC’s Annual Meeting

worked to improve the business climate in Atchison
County. Today, ACDC staff provides support to
community organizations and collaborates with county,
regional and state groups to better our county.
The Mission of ACDC: to
initiate, stimulate and facilitate
opportunity in Atchison County
through economic and
community development.

AGRICULTURE What would we
be without this
backbone of our
economy?
BUSINESS ACDC works to
retain, grow
and attract
businesses
and jobs.
FAMILY THIS is a place
where family is
paramount and
kids are valued.
WIND With Rock Creek,
our county will
have the largest
wind farm and
the most
megawatts of
wind energy in
Missouri.

Two pieces are particularly important to people interested
in moving to our area: FIND A JOB and FIND A HOME.
Our job board (jobs.atchisoncounty.org/) is searchable by
keyword, job type, or location. Similarly, our real estate
site (Property for Sale, realestate.atchisoncounty.org) lets
visitors search area listings by price, size, or location.
If you are an area employer with frequent job postings
or an Atchison County real estate agent, please contact
us so we can provide you with your own login. This will
enable you to add or edit your jobs or listings.
If you have an occasional job opening or are selling your
own home, you can call or email us with details and we
will gladly post that information for you. Alternatively,
you can submit that information online via the Sell
Your Home button on the real estate site or the
Post a Job button on the job page.
DOING BUSINESS HERE covers information
sought by those who might want to establish
their industry in our county. See Your
Industry Here serves as our recruitment piece,
highlighting workforce demographics,
incentives, infrastructure and transportation,
key industries and employers, and available
sites. Start or Grow Your Business is a great
resource for business startups or existing businesses wishing to expand. It lists funding
opportunities, provides links to partners and programs,
and offers many business startup resources.
One of the most useful sections of our site is LIFE IN
ATCHISON COUNTY (atchisoncounty.org/life), where you
can find details on utilities, local schools, churches, and
more. This reference guide can be used to find anything
from which county office helps with property taxes to
where a local Kiwanis or Rotary club meets.
Anytime you’re looking for something specific and don’t
know where to start, you can use the search box at the top
of the page, and it will direct you to the right place. It is our
hope that this countywide resource is both helpful and
accurate. Let us know how we can make it better!

Thoughts from your
ACDC Director…
In Atchison County, every
single one of us matters.
When you’re rural, every
action and interaction
has a tremendous
impact. We’re focused on
electing officials these
days, but we’re voting
every day, in big and
small ways, on the future
of our county. With every
Yes vote, we say we want
this place to be strong
and vibrant for our kids.
With each No vote, we
say that we don’t care
what this place will look
like decades from now.
Here are some No votes:
Driving past local stores
without stopping,
assuming a high price
and lack of product
Telling a high school
senior there is no
future here for her
Posting negative
commentary on
Facebook about the
school or streets or the
latest project in town
Here are some Yes votes:
Hiring a high school
freshman to teach him
the tools of your trade
Posting a good review
on a business’s
Facebook page or
telling a friend about a
great experience you
had at the store
Joining or leading a
worthwhile effort
Chances are, you voted
today for your county’s
future. Was it Yes or No?

shall not have been in vain. President Dwight D. Eisenhower
SHOP AC NIGHT, Thursday, November 17 Mark your calendars, Christmas shoppers!
You know how important it is to Think AC First. How many of us routinely check our local
stores before looking elsewhere for what we need on a daily basis? The more organized
among us have already started Christmas shopping...how many of us are purposely
considering what gifts we could find for our family and friends right here in AC before
heading online or to big box stores? Here is a chance to do just that!
On Thursday, Nov. 17, some of your favorites will stay open till 8 p.m.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to get into the gift-giving
spirit, re-acquaint yourself with what our county has to offer and
support our AC businesses! Stay tuned to the newspaper and our
Facebook page for more details.
