ISIS Programme
Objective:
Facilitate access to commercial optical imagery acquired by
satellites developed by CNES (SPOT 1-5, Pléiades)
How does it work?
Scientists submit image requests on the ISIS website/email
including science objectives and methods used
CNES reviews and validates requests based on information
provided
Images are tasked/acquired/processed/delivered by Airbus DS
directly to science user
Who is eligible ?
Scientists based in EU+Iceland/Switzerland/Norway
Image request must be for science use (non commercial)
Images can be shared with partners outside Europe

Pleiades in the ISIS programme
Status
■Pleiades is now available through the ISIS programme – image
requests accepted from European researchers
■ Images can be shared with international partners
How does it work?
■ Possible to submit requests for
Tasking satellites to acquire new images
Producing archive images
■ All Labs will need to sign an agreement with CNES to become
a registered “ISIS user”
■ Once “ISIS user” status is granted
for European users this will allow image acquisition requests
for non-European labs this will grant “partner status” (access to
imagery already acquired)
All Pleiades imagery acquired through ISIS will be shared with
registered ISIS users

Pleiades in the ISIS programme
Data costs for European labs
Based on french institutional “cost-price”
European lab will pay
For an new acquisition ~1.8€/km2 (minimum request 100 km2)
For an archive image ~1.4€/km2 (minimum request 100 km2)
Stereo and Tri-stereao x2 and x3 respectively
Products
“Primary” and “Ortho” products
Currently no DEM products proposed, however possibility to
acquire stereo/tri-stereo (three images, 3 image pairs) to generate
DEMs
ISIS user lab registration forms to be signed by laboratory
director

SPOT World Heritage Programme
Objectives:
■Open the near 30 year SPOT archive to non-commercial use.
■Creation of a free-to-access reference database of SPOT
imagery
■By responding to user requests, provide an « intelligent filter »
to guide processing
Principles
■ Images are made available free of charge for non commercial
use
■Registration required prior to download
■Function through open call for Areas of Interest to the science
community / international programmes (GEO, CEOS, etc.)

SPOT World Heritage Programme
Products
■Over 100000 ortho-
rectified SPOT 1-5 images
available on
theia-landsat .cnes.fr
10
Future plans
■Feasability study on processing the complete archive just
completed
■CNES decision to proceed with processing the entire SPOT 1-5
archive
■First data should be accessible from mid-2018

The Pléiades Glacier Observatory
• Entirely funded by the French Space Agency (CNES)
• Facilitate access to Pleiades satellite data for glaciologists
• Acquire stereo data at the right time of the year (i.e. end of the melt season)
• Sites selected in coordination with WGMS: initial goals are to use these data to (i) provide a DEM/image of benchmark glaciers and (ii) help to assess the regional representativeness of the glaciers monitored in the field.
• One contact scientist for each site to define the acquisition parameters and validate the images when acquired.
• Raw stereo-data are provided. Possibility to get a DEM + ortho-image (generation @LEGOS using Ames Stereo Pipeline)
• PGO stereo images will be freely available to all for scientific purpose, just need to sign a specific agreement.
• Two acquisition campaigns done: Aug-Oct 2016 (NH) and Feb-April 2017 (SH)
