Having put a lot of thought (and possible over-thinking) into the letter I wrote last year as the AAF Lexington President, I wonder is this just another formality? Can it justly recap a year of accomplishments and successes, show sincere gratitude to a fantastic board and capture full appreciation of our generous sponsors? Can a few written words convince a member to rejoin and to join the charge? Would anyone notice or care if the rest of this letter was set in Lorem Ipsum?
I truly appreciated all the solid programming and enjoyed entering and attending the ADDYS. And I recognized the energy and time commitment of past boards and committees. I deeply appreciate this year’s board for their passion for service, positive contributions, and dedicated drive to push
this thing forward. And I’m grateful for our kind sponsors in helping us to continue to reach higher.
I believe you see that we have something very special with this club. We have the capability to impact our industry, our area college students and this community that we’re blessed to use our talents.
So, cherished member, if you like having fun with like minded professionals, enjoy the return of serving for a greater good, and see the value in personal growth, I ask you to email me or any board members to let us know you’re in to serve.
God bless.

AAF Lexington
In operation for over 60 years, AAF Lexington is an affiliate chapter of The American Advertising Federation (AAF). As the “Unifying Voice for Advertising,” AAF is the oldest national advertising trade association representing all segments of the industry. Your membership to AAF Lexington automatically connects you with a national network of over 40,000 creative professionals from over 200 affiliated Clubs across the country.
2016 American Advertising Awards 05
The Fifth District of the American Advertising Federation represents 12 professional advertising associations and college chapters throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. We are the regional voice of the advertising industry to the AAF. Our mission is to protect and promote the well-being of advertising in the district through our various programs.
As a member of AAF, you sit as one creative professional among 40,000 members across the nation. That represents 15 districts much like ours—some bigger—some smaller, but with one common goal in mind—to be the Unifying Voice for Advertising.
Whether that manifests itself as profes-sional development, special events, digital conferences or even our signature event, The American Advertising Awards, AAF exists to provide many important services like:
• Bringing members together to yield creative business solutions.
• Protecting and promoting advertising at all levels of government through grass- roots activities, especially defending anti-advertising legislation.
• Educating members on the latest trends in technology, creativity and marketing.
• Honoring advertising excellence.
• Enhancing advertising education through the Fifth District National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) and Student ADDY Awards.
Tonight’s competition, and the work being recognized is the first step of a 3-tiered competition that leads all the way to the National ADDYs this summer in Anaheim. Our district alone had nearly 3,100 entries submitted and from that pool, about 10% (give or take) will advance to the 2nd tier competition at District.
Regardless if you take home Gold or not, you are to be commended for the effort and passion you put into your craft. And, even more so, for supporting your local Ad Fed.

Wow. I am incredibly unqualified to speak on behalf of the work presented here. But the people, I know the people. Many of you I have come to know personally and professionally. In your crazy, spectacular ways, you compel me and numerous others to do something great.
Although this market has been uniquely identified for it’s diverse work with various clients, projects, and problems, there is at least one underlying theme: a genuine desire to inspire and grow our culture. That is a great privilege and responsibility, which, collectively, we tackle on so many levels.
Speaking of privilege and responsibility, it has been an honor to work alongside the talent that serves as your ADDY host. I’ve tried to say thank you a thousand times, yet I still can’t seem to express how grateful I am for my partners: Jeff Hancock, Adriane Grumbein, Zipie, LEX18, Multi-Craft, The Lexington Herald-Leader and our squad of AAF Lexington Board of Directors, thank you for trusting me.
Last but certainly not least, to everyone celebrating with us tonight, thank you for making this fun. Congratulations to all of our winners and may the forwarding Golds continue to represent us well!

In our AAF Lexington community, there are many passionate, creative individuals. We have a vibrant and engaging member-ship, and we are blessed to be growing in number and reach. That doesn’t happen by accident. To maintain and grow a community, one needs individuals who are committed to leadership, mentoring, and a tireless sense of positivity—onward and upward for the betterment of the club and our mission. David Caldwell is one of those rare individuals, with drive and ambition for what we can achieve, and pride in what we embody.
David’s journey throughout his career is a varied and interesting one. Beginning on the creative/design side of the business, he transitioned to client services, project management and media services in the course of his work. David now guides his clients, the same way he devotes his abilities to our club, to strategy and design thinking for creative solutions for clients to help them achieve their desired, and perhaps unexpected, goals.
For over 25 years, David has been an active member in our club, in numerous roles, including past President of the AAF Lexington, Governor of District Five AAF representing Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia, and served on the National American Advertising Awards Committee. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the District 5 American Advertising Federation. He has been unfailing in his support for our community, serving the club and its members in ways large and small, on panels, in groups, one-on-one, in ways too many to count.
On behalf of the AAF Lexington, we proudly present our 2016 AAF Lexington Distinguished Member Award to David Caldwell, for his dedication to the AAF organization and all its members.
