1. At the o~ening of the period, the 9th Infantry Regiment (Thai Battalion attached) was occupying, organizing, and pr~paririR to dofe.nd the Post Armistice Main Battle Position from CT564382 to CT616399 with 1st Battalion tdth first platoon Tank Company attached and Thai Battalion with fot~th platoon, Tank Company attached on line. 2d Battalion vicinity CT5693/~9 and Tank Co {-) vicinity CT565368 were in Regimental reserve. The 3d Battalion vicinity CT609355 was in Division reserv~. Counterfire platoon remained attached to the 15th Field Artillery Battalion.

2. On 5 August 1953 th~ platoon, Tank Company which t.;as attached to 1st Battalion reverted to Regimental resorve. On 6 August 1953 the platoon, Tank Company attached to Thai Battalion, reverted to Regimental reserve.

5. Companies B, C, and D of the Thai Battalion departed for Thailand on 23, 25, and 27 August 1953, respectively. On Z9 August 1953, two companiFls arrived, to replace B and D Companies.

6. At the close of t.hc month the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions were oc­cupying and completing Post Armistice Hain Battl0 Positions from CT564382 to CT616399. F Company vicinity CT581379 and Tank Company (-) vicinity CT565368 t-rere in liegimental reserve. Thai Battalion (-) 14as in Division reserve vicinity CT609355.

b. The 9th Infantry Regiment continued ext~nsive salvage operations on the Demilitarized Zone throughout the month. Timbers, sandbags, engineer pickets, barbed wire and other. construction material was rn.moved and stock­piled south of tho Southern Boundary of the Demilitarized Zone and was being used in construction and fortification of the Po~>t Armistic"l t::ain Battle Positions.

5. a. Throughout the period, training in conduct of the defense was emphasized. This included improvement or position, preparation of' range cards, camouflage, reconnaissance patrols within authorized limits, developnent ·or tire plans, and rehearsal of counterattack plans. In· ad­dition, a·· minima' ·or two one-hundred percent alerts· were held weekl.7, oue during dqlight ad one during the hours of' darkness. Subjects which re­ceived special attention included cold weather indoctrination, CBR defense, character guidance, aaf'ety, ooaa.nd conferences, weapons training and tiring,

. inspections, and physical training.

. b. Troop Information and Education continued to receive colllll&nd emphasis and support. During the period 74 additional officers and enlisted men enrolled ·in USAF1 courses, 716 tOok achievement·· high school or college GED tests, and, 1n addition, 315 were interviewed for advisement and accred­itation.

6. ·At the end or the month the 1st and 3d Battalions were occuJ11ing and completing the Post Armistice Main Battle Positions from CTS64382 to CT6l6.399. 7. ·a. Cost ··consciousness continued to receive .. emphasis 1n the regi­ment by. sign ·and poster displqs and supplemented P1," cOIIIDalld conferences. Individual· responsibUi t7 f'or personal clothing and'' equipment was heavilT stressed.·· The increased etticienc,. in and utilization ·or first.;.echelon. maintenance .. demonstrate the awareness or the soldiers of' the-regiment in the program.

b. The 9th Intant:r.y Regiment completed extensive· salvage opera­tions in the Demllitarized Zone on 13 September 1953. Timbers, sandbags, engineer pickets, barbed wire, and other construction and f'ortitication materials were collected, sorted, issued, and. used 1n construction or Post Armistice Main Battle Positions.
