Dear Parents, Staff and Children, Wakakirri It’s occasions like this when you know why you entered into the world of teaching. It was definitely a proud moment when our 32 students entered onto the stage to perform their ‘A New World’ item that they have been preparing over the past term. Our students performed with confidence and enthusiasm to entertain a full house audience at the Clock Tower Performing Arts Centre. Their item was outstanding (although I am a little bias) and all the children’s hard work and effort was rewarded. The group received two awards on the night, one of which was a teamwork award. The other award was a public speaking award in recognition of the speeches that Azime Roads, Tyler Baba and Karla Tentonello delivered during an interview with the host. Sincere thanks to Elissa Campbell for assisting with the organisation of this program and for her creative costume making. Thankyou also to Marie Warchulski for her wonderful costume, prop and set designs. Thankyou to Laura Taylor and Stephanie Barnes for coming along to assist on the day and during the evening. They were so engrossed in their hair and make up jobs that at one stage I think they were considering a career change. Finally, sincerest thanks to Tony Keeble who, for the second year has worked with the children as our Artist in Residence. His creative talent, passion and manner with the children is exceptional and we have been very fortunate to work with someone so skilled. The items will be performed at an assembly in the near future and at our Sunbury West On Show expo later in the year. Congratulations again to all the students who participated!!!! Netball Congratulations to the Girls Netball Team whom, after winning the pennant at the district level, went on to compete at the Regional Finals last Friday. After a round robin competition, the girls came runners up, a wonderful achievement. Well done to all the girls for their effort and enthusiasm. Special thanks to Ms Moore for her work in coaching the girls leading up to and on the day. Community Forum On Wednesday 23rd August we will be conducting a community forum to gain feedback from parents about our school improvement initiatives in preparation for our School Review next term. We are always keen to hear our parent perspective and welcome input from the community. The forum will be at 7.00pm to coincide with our School Council meeting. We aim to make this as informal but as informative as possible so it would be great to have as many parents come along as possible. Please complete the Reply Slip to confirm your attendance.

To complement our Integrated Studies topic on Wonderful Water the children in Grade 3 and 4 had an incursion
with Ann from Western Water on Monday 31st July. They learnt how water is treated before it is safe to drink and
participated in water experiments. They also learnt the importance of conserving water. Here are some of their
reports.
Ann from Western Water came today. She told us lots of interesting things. One thing I learnt today was milk is 95%
water and 5% fat. The best thing today was the experiment. You needed a cup, a bottle, some charcoal, cotton
balls, some disgusting water and sand. We met the mascot Sammy the Snake. I love Sammy. Then after the experi-
ment we went back to class. Did you know it is important to save water because Australia is the driest country in the
world? Stop using water for long showers, turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth and fix leaking taps.
Breanna Prior 3/4B
Ann from Western Water came to our school to teach us about how water gets to our tap. I learnt how water gets
cleaned, how alum sticks dirt together, how water goes through charcoal, how our experiment worked. Milk is 95%
water and 5% fat. We will stay alive if we drink water. Dirty water is turned into sludge. The best hose to use is a
hose with a trigger because it saves water. There are reservoirs in Sunbury. Sunbury’s reservoir is Kerrie Reservoir.
It’s important to save water because Australia is the driest country in the world. Three things that we can do to save
water are: to use a trigger hose, take 5 minute showers and use the half flush button on the toilet.
Cameron Sheppard 3/4B
Ann came from Western Water to teach us about how water gets to our taps. I learnt you can save water by using a
trigger hose. I also learnt how water gets cleaned and is dirty in the reservoirs. The water goes through a filtration
site to be cleaned. They use alum to make all the dirt particles stick together and then it goes back into a tank.
Then they pump air into the tank and then the water goes through rocks, sand and charcoal. Then they add chlo-
rine and fluoride and then it’s safe to drink. Australia is the driest country in the world.
Daniel Sheldrick 3/4B
On Tuesday the 1st of August, Western Water came and the lady’s name was Ann. She told us
about what stuff goes in the water. She told us about the machines that they have. I learnt a few
things about the things that make the water clean. You put in a cotton ball in a half of a bottle
then cover the cotton ball in sand and then charcoal. Take the lid off and put it in a little cup
and put on something with little holes on it and pour in the water in. All the bad stuff stays on the
thing and the water goes through. The water gets cleaner but you can’t drink it.
Nate Curll 3/4N
On the 1st of August 2017 Ann a Western Water teacher came to S.W.P.S to teach the 3/4s about
water transition and how it becomes clean.
She told us about Alum and what it is. It’s a powder and they put it into the water and it turns
into sludge. Then it gets put through some other things such as rocks, pebbles, sand and chlo-
rine.
Then Ann told us about the transition of water and she let us look at lots of photos of important things of the water
transition. Some of the class got to do a demonstration of how it got clean, Dekoda, Alex, Josh, Jessica, Harper and I
did it. We also made a water filter. I worked with Connor and Dekoda we had to put a cotton ball into the bottom of
the top of a soda bottle and then we sprinkled sand over the cotton ball then we put ground charcoal over the sand
put a net type thing over the top, then I poured dirty water into it and ours failed and it became charcoal water.
Overall, I had a really good time.
Victoria Larton 3/4N
On the 1ST of August we had a Western Water incursion and we had a girl and her name was Ann. We did an experi-
ment and we used a cotton ball, charcoal, sand, dirty water, a bottle that is cut in half, mesh and elastic. It showed
us how to clean dirty water. Ann told us that when you drink water it stays in your body for 12 seconds and I thought
it was fun and we got to meet Sammy the Snake. I liked Western Water.
Trinity Watts 3/4N
On Tuesday Western Water came to our school and showed us how water comes to our tap. We did an experiment. I did the experiment with Ashlee and Jessica. At the end we saw Sammy the Snake. I had a lot of fun. The person that came to our school was Ann. Charlotte Fletcher 3/4N
Early last week we had a visit from Harry Beckwith from the RSL in Sunbury to present a certificate to our
JSC students for their participation in the ANZAC Day Ceremony. Eliza and Tyler accepted the award on
behalf of the JSC.
