Exercise itself does not make you breakout -
even sweating doesn’t set off acne.
Oil, dirt, makeup, and bacteria is what clogs
your pores and leads to those unsightly
white, black and red bumps on your face and
body.
In the next few pages we are going to reveal
the seven easy steps to prevent acne before
and after exercising.
Prep Your Skin Start your workout with a clean face
and body.
The circulation in your skin speeds up
while working out, which gives your skin
a beautiful glow – this process also
opens your pores, leaving them
exposed.
The less oil, dirt and makeup on your
face before exercising will result in the
least amount of acne after.
Gently wash your face before your
workout.
*Makeup is a major no-no. Try wearing
none, or if you must, aim for oil-free and
non-comedogenic makeup.
Your gym towel goes everywhere with you but is
exposed to a lot more dirt and bacteria than you
are.
Don’t use the same towel on your face that you
use to wipe machines, or lay on the floor – it’s
picking up all sorts of things you don’t want on
your skin.
When using your face towel, pat
the sweat from your skin. Never
rub your face vigorously – that
can irritate your skin and can
sweep oil and dirt into your open
pores.
Your Towel
Your Face
Do NOT touch it.
As much as possible avoid putting your
hands on your face.
Your hands come in contact with oil, dirt,
and all sorts of nasty things on a regular
basis.
When you touch the free weights or a
machine, your hands are touching all the
people who have used it before – you are
picking up everyone else’s oil and dirt.
Wash your hands before touching your skin
– you should even wash your hands before
washing your face.
Your Clothes Laundry is one of those chores
that many hate to do, that being
said, dirty clothes could be what
is causing the acne on your
body.
Only wear workout clothes
ONCE – even if they are dry from
your last workout they are not
clean and could contain bacteria,
dirt and oil.
Also, make sure you wear
clothing that is workout
appropriate.
Focus on 100% natural fibers,
like cotton, wool, hemp, etc. Also,
make sure your clothing is light
weight and loose-fitting.
Your Accessories Just like your face and body,
clothes need to be cleaned after
every workout, as well as your
accessories.
Yoga mats, exercise gloves, wrist
bands, and knee pads all need to
be washed of oil, dirt, and
bacteria.
If possible, get a couple of each of
these so that you can swap them
out every day as the other pair
has a chance to be washed.
Sunscreen While working outdoors, it’s a
great idea to wear sunscreen
– protecting your skin from
sun damage will keep you
looking youthful for years to
come.
Overexposure to the sun has
been proven in studies to
cause a wide variety of skin
problems, acne being one.
Unfortunately, sunscreen can
clog your pores too; so, make
sure that it is oil-free.
SPF 15 or Higher • Broad-Spectrum Protection (UVA and UVB rays) • Oil-Free or Non-
Comedogenic
What To Look For:
Clean your skin immediately after
exercising.
Follow this simple regime:
• Cleanse your skin with a gentle product
that will remove dirt, makeup, and
bacteria-causing oil.
• Apply a light layer of toner, the size of
your pores will shrink, and it will reduce
redness and sensitivity.
• Moisturize. Use a lotion that will promote
healthy normal oils and open your pores
to kill any leftover bacteria.

what causes glands to produce
excessive oil, one of the main
culprits of adult acne.
