nin and Drinkman were chargedas “Hacker 1” and “Hacker 2.”Prosecutors identified the two
as sophisticated hackers who spe-cialized in penetrating the com-puter networks of multinationalcorporations, financial institu-tions and payment processors.Kotov’s specialty was harvest-
ing data from the networks afterthey had been penetrated, andRytikov provided anonymousWeb-hosting services that were
used to hack into computer net-works and covertly remove data, the indictment said.Smilianets was the informa-
tion salesman, the governmentsaid.The individualswhopurchased
the credit and debit card num-bers and associated data from thehacking organization resold themthrough online forums or directlyto others known as “cashers,” theindictment said. According to
the indictment, U.S. credit cardnumbers sold for about $10 each;Canadian numbers were $15; andbetter-encrypted European ones$50.The cashers would encode
the information onto the mag-netic strips of blank plastic cardsand cash out the value, by eitherwithdrawing money from ATMsin the case of debit cards, or run-ning up charges and purchasinggoods in the case of credit cards.

after stops at several area Winn-Dixie stores. The tour comes at an ideal
time. Gas prices are on the riselocally and nationwide and showfew signs of subsiding in thecoming weeks. A gallon of reg-ular unleaded gas in the TampaBay area costs $3.51 on average, according toAAA. That’s up from$3.44 a month ago and $3.38 ayear ago.AAA officials said they had not
received inquiries about the FuelRewards Network but noted thatpeople typically don’t start react-ing to gas prices until the costreaches $4 or $4.25 per gallon.“We’re not at that breaking
point yet where we’re seeingchanges in behavior,” said AAAspokeswomanJessica Brady. When they do start feeling the
pinch, she said, a recentAAA sur-vey found that people respondfirst by cutting back on shoppingand dining out, followed by stay-ing with friends instead of at ahotel, and shortening vacations.

HOUSTON — Halliburtonhas agreed to plead guilty to thedestruction of critical evidenceafter the Gulf of Mexico oil spillin 2010, the Justice DepartmentannouncedThursday.Halliburton, an oil services
company, will pay the maximumallowable fine and be subject tothree years of probation, the Jus-tice Department said. It will also
continue its cooperation in thegovernment’s ongoing criminalinvestigation. The federal government filed
one criminal charge against thecompany, which has suffered sig-nificant damage to its reputationsince the explosion of the Deep-water Horizon rig that killed 11workers and soiled hundreds ofmiles of beaches. Halliburton isthe third company — along with
BP, the operator of the drillingsite, and Transocean, which ranthe rig— to plead guilty to a crim-inal charge related to the spill.Halliburton was responsible formixing cement used for thewell.Lawyers representing busi-
nesses and others that sufferedfrom the spill had long accusedthe company of conductingundocumented cement tests andthenhiding the results.
During the trial this year,Thomas Roth, a senior companyexecutive in charge of cementingoperations at the time of the spill, acknowledged that because of
the well design and other factors,“the cement placement was goingto be a job that would have a lowprobability of success.”The failure of the cement foam
seal set off a complex and ulti-mately deadly cascade of oiland gas up the well casing thatexploded into flames to engulftheDeepwaterHorizon rig.
