Celebrating our 50th AnniversaryThe journey through the first year was taken from a scroll presented by the Northglenn Elks Ladies
Auxiliary on our first Anniversary as a Lodge. The Northglenn Elks Lodge was just a dream in August of 1969 when a group of Elks met in Jim Steers’basement. They conducted several meetings with the New Lodge Chairman and his committee todetermine the possibility of forming a Northglenn Elks Lodge. Since the potential was tremendous, permission was granted to start organizing. The first organizational meeting in the Northglenn Mall Community room on September 25, 1969 with 60men in attendance. At that time the organizational officers were elected.Jim Steers President, Bud O’Leary Secretary, Jerry Yost TreasurerOn October 2, 1969 we moved our meetings to the North Star Lounge where Jerry Connolly, Grand Lodgeofficer, was the first guest speaker. By November, membership interests were on the rise with a readingof 70.While the Northglenn Elks were still in their beginning stages, Charity and giving back to the communitywas already on their mind. The tradition of the Christmas Charity Raffle began and we raised $400.00.This money was used for our first annual Christmas Basket program where we distributed to seven needyfamilies. In January 1970 we began holding meetings at the Royal Inn Motel. The speaker in January was TubbyRice – a Grand Lodge Officer from Colorado Springs. The first open house was held in February 1970 formembership. Northglenn was first represented at a State Quarterly meeting held in Florence, CO onFebruary 7-8. The Northglenn Elks finally found their first home in Eastlake CO and held their first meet-ing on March 12, 1970. The general address for this location was “across the street from the Post Office”.The birth of a new Lodge finally occurred over the April 25-26 weekend. The morning of April 26th, behindclosed doors at Westminster High School, 365 proud men became Charter Members of the Benevolentand Protective Order of Elks, Northglenn Lodge #2438. Later that day, with great pride, we opened thedoors of our new home to the members and the many visitors who had attended the institution hostedby Westminster Elks @2227. On May 2, 1970, we hosted our first traditional Inaugural Ball. With theLongmont Officers presiding, we installed our first Lodge Officers on May 28, 1970. August 4, 1970 wasthe day we installed the first Officers in the Northglenn Elks ladies #2438. Later that year we saw our firstNorthglenn Elks Paper, Bingo Session and attended our first State Convention.
