Glimpses of the event

PRAZNIK 2009

PRAZNIK'09 “the annual management cultural festival”

The word PRAZNIK means-'Festival of fun and frolic 'in Russian. In less than 6 months from the day of inception of the institute, the students of UIAMS were able to stage one of its kind & a very gala departmental festival. Books & classroom studies can teach one only theory & concepts but, a pragmatic exposure to the real world tests the actual organizing & management acumen of any aspiring manager as well as the mettle of nerves.

PRAZNIK was a multidimensional enterprising as well as a challenging experience for everyone. In the times of global recession, getting sponsorship for the fest was an uphill task but, the students did a wonderful job by arranging all the funds through their coordinated and committed efforts. Door to door marketing, corporate presentations, negotiations across the table; they did everything and that too with grace and glory.

The three day event had one complete day dedicated to business seminars, where different leaders from diverse backgrounds shared their professional experience with our students, to name a few Dr. Pawan Aggarwal, CEO, Munmabi Tiffinwala (a six sigma retail), Dr. Ashish Banerjee, Director Fortis Hospital, Dr. Anil Gupta, Director, PGI Health, M r Vivek Attari (IT), Mr. Anil Kumar, Director, EESSI infrastructure. To add further, we also had hard core business event like virtual stock market, brand auction, biz quiz & many more to test as well as to hone the business acumen of the budding managers. There were number of cultural events along with a lot of games packed with fun n frolic. The stall area had number of brands like ICICI, HDFC, Royal Enfield, Bank of Baroda, Amartex etc. displaying their products and services.

Fashion Show saw a packed crowd and was acknowledged by all present in the event. The star night with star Punjabi performer AMRINDER GILL performing LIVE saw a huge turnout and there was hardly an inch of space for anybody to come in.

To conclude PRAZNIK had everything on the Platter for the budding business managers and would always be cherished as a fond memory as well as a real world achievement for the students and the dept. of UIAMS

MBA Programme

The MBA programme offered at UIAMS is much more than a collection of classes that add up to a degree. It is a complete learning experience and an in-depth immersion in management theory and practice.

During the Programme, we help in developing a broad base of knowledge that equips our students to make complex, analytical decisions. Students at UIAMS challenge themselves to learn from the faculty, industrialists as well as colleagues and discover new personal strengths.

The MBA programme has been designed according to the industrial and sector specific needs. Today what we require is to have managers who know everything about something and not the other way around. This is what we believe at UIAMS and this is what we offer. Through extensive industry research and feedback, we have developed six different sectors which need specialists and we strive to deliver them to the industry.

During the first year, students go through extensive course work in areas such as finance, accounting, marketing and economics to develop a solid foundation of critical business concepts and skills. Complemented by real-world case studies, team projects and exposure to regional business leaders, year one is an exhilarating combination of theory and practice.

Customization and flexibility are the hallmarks of the second year. The dedicated faculty ensures that the would-be managers go through an innovative and challenging course, specifically designed to bring out the best in them. At UIAMS, the aim is not only to school managers, but also to develop leaders who can inspire others and can lead by example.

MBA - Retail ManagementUIAMSThe word ‘Retail’ has been derived from the French word ‘Retaillier’ meaning 'to break bulk'. Retail is the final step in the distribution of merchandise - the last link in the Supply Chain - connecting the bulk producers of commodities to the final consumers. Retailing covers both goods and services. It covers diverse products such as food, apparels, consumer goods, financial services and leisure.

The retail market in India is increasingly becoming the most attractive and enthralling market globally. The Indian retail market is the fifth largest destination globally and this $372 billion retail industry is set to double in just five years. The Indian consumer market is also likely to grow four times by 2025. Organized retail penetration is on the rise and extends an attractive proposition for new entrants both domestic and foreign, as well as scope for expansion for existing players.

In the present day scenario, retail is the need of the hour for every business to survive and grow. Its presence is not limited to malls and shops but extends itself to banking, telecom, hotels and many other sectors. Since, retail is growing towards an organized industry; the management skills needed are of utmost importance as in all other organized sectors. Consumer is the 'emperor' in today's era and the business endeavor has changed from customer satisfaction to customers delight. The industry demands promising managers with expertise in retail and UIAMS believes in providing the same.

With the Indian economy returning back on a high growth trajectory, consumption levels soaring and investments riding high, the Indian banking sector is at a watershed. The industry has been growing faster than the real economy. Banking industry in India will shoot-up like a star and will need highly qualified and competent individuals. As banks face the mutually interdependent forces of competition, regulation, technology, and customer expectations, a picturesque setting for the tremendous upheaval and opportunity emerges.

MBA - Telecommunication & ITUIAMSIndia, as the largest supplier of exported software services, faces challenges to ramp up its higher education system to staff its rapidly expanding software industry.

Offshoring creates major changes in the demand for knowledge workers and the skills they possess. Developing countries that are building their software service export markets, such as India and China, need to prepare large number of people to work in this industry.

UIAMS has been started not only with the aim of preparing future managers but also to achieve goals such as research, giving students a liberal education, and teaching them to think critically that must be considered when revising a university's program to address workforce needs.

The unique combination of telecom and IT subjects widens the knowledge and skills of the students. The industry gets an exquisitely finished trained product to guide its business and make it more affluent. The compound of 70% managerial subjects and 30% specialized sectoral subjects along with exposure to industry through case studies and projects polishes the diamonds in rough.

Overall, this first of a kind MBA course being offered here aims to make unflagging managers.

MBA - Infrastructure ManagementUIAMS“You and I come by road or air, but economists travel on

infrastructure.”

Infrastructure refers to all those services and facilities that constitute the basic support system of an economy. It is the foundation on which the day to day functioning of all the economic activities of a country depends. Infrastructure management is a diversified field having vivid tapestry of the fields like Power, Energy, Construction, Telecom etc. The program encompasses a comprehensive & well-structured two-year classroom study to enable students to formulate policies & manage alternative regulatory regimes in the best of interest of the businesses.

Infrastructure management among all purposes seeks certain objectives; i) Reduce duplication of effort, ii) Ensure adherence to standards, iii) Enhance the flow of information throughout and iv) Promote adaptability The objective of this two year full MBA is to make indefatigable, omniscient and discerned technocrats into strategic decision makers, to meet all kinds of present and projected requirements in the infrastructure sector. This programme will give exposure and understanding to the future managers in infrastructure sector. The opportunities are manifold; India's strong presence; it is open for huge foreign investment that is set to ignite this sector like never-before.

The robust current growth in GDP has exposed the grave inadequacies in the country's infrastructure sectors. The strong population growth in India and its booming economy are generating enormous pressures to modernize and expand India's infrastructure. The creation of world class infrastructure would require large investments in addressing the deficit in quality and quantity. More than USD 475 billion (Source: FICCI) worth of investment is to flow into India's infrastructure by 2012 but the country has been experiencing a dearth of trained professionals.

Significant infrastructure requirement needed to sustain the growth makes India an inevitable destiny in the world that can absorb so many funds for this sector. The program is aimed at building capacity of experts in regulation to ensure as managers of public utilities, consultants & government regulators.

MBA - Hospital ManagementUIAMS“A Hospital is no place to be sick.”

Hospital industry is an important component of the value chain in Indian healthcare industry rendering services and recognised as healthcare delivery segment of the healthcare industry which is growing at an annual rate of 14%. It is estimated to grow by 2012 to Rs. 3,163 billion. Today, we have over 2.5 lakh health institutions in India - large, medium, and small. Our health system is unique as compared to other countries; there are government, private, religious, industrial, multi-national institutions and also allopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy, nature cure and other systems of healthcare. Large number of corporate hospitals, hospitals sponsored by industrial houses, multinational hospital corporations with modern technology as investments are being established. There are newer diseases, newer diagnostic technologies, day-care surgeries and particularly institutions for profit.

Health care, which is a US$ 35 billion industry in India, is expected to reach over US$ 75 billion by 2012 and US$ 150 billion by 2017 according to Technopak Advisors in their report 'India Health Care Trends 2008'. 'First World treatment' at ‘Third World prices’ is how industry sources define medical tourism in India.

Indian healthcare industry is set for a major growth with revamp and radical changes in the service delivery model and outcome. This necessitates the need to have dynamic healthcare administrators, who will drive the industry to greater heights and glory. The nature of work in hospitals is quite different from other organizations; Hospitals are expected to deliver quality service 24 hours a day at a minimal cost. The urgent nature of its work and the level of efficiency that is expected have increased the need of well-formulated hospital management courses throughout the world.

To tap the growing demand of the Indian health care industry, the course offered will provide help in developing a core understanding of business fundamentals, ethics, and leadership. In addition, it will also assist in acquiring real-world management techniques that can be applied to a variety of areas in health care, including personnel, resources, external relationships, operational quality, and budgeting. It offers numerous career options such as healthcare information technology, state government health projects, WHO, UNICEF, PSU and government hospitals, healthcare quality management and many more.

Our placement approach

The academic rigour of the future leaders is made complete through the placement programme that introduces them to the corporate atmosphere. The graduating batch enters the real life world of management through the final placement programme, while the first year students get familiarized with the industry through the internship programme.

The placement activity broadly covers Pre-placement talk, Summer Internship and Final Placement.

Pre-Placement Talk

Its an opportunity for the corporate world to get better acquainted with their prospective recruits, both for the summer and final placements. The aim of the pre-placement talk is to address typical student concerns like job description, remuneration package, scope for growth & cross-functional exposure. We request and expect every recruiter to hold a pre-placement session wherein all the above mentioned information could be discussed between the recruiter and students. In the event of any recruiter not being able to hold a pre-placement sessions, we request them to send all the pertinent details to the institute through the response sheet to the placement co-ordinator in advance.

Summer Training

Summer training constitutes an integral part of the sectoral MBA curriculum and is valued for its relevance in management education and its application. Undertaken at the end of first year of the MBA, the summer training is the perfect opportunity for students to apply the theoretical concepts learnt within the classrooms. After completing the first year course work, the students join different organisations for a period of eight to ten weeks on specific assignments as summer trainees. As a part of the internship, students are required to submit a report on the work done. The presentations made by them to the organisation forms the basis for the evaluation of the project work. It is an occasion for prospective managers to explore varied career opportunities in the areas of their interest. They get a better grasp of the important inter-linkages among different functions and develop a realistic managerial perspective on corporate working.

Final Placements

The final placement programme helps the students to launch their career in corporate world. It gives an opportunity to students to utilize the skills and knowledge that they have acquired in MBA Programme. The Placement cell serves to bridge the gap between a job-aspirant and a prospective employer. The companies get to choose the talent according to their requirements. The companies can choose the candidate according to the skills required and organizational fit. In the final placement programme, the students compete among themselves during the selection process, and hence showcase the best of their capabilities.
