1 ps

1 train of 2820 bunches

bunch

1 train of 2820 bunches

0.2s between trains

1 bunch made up of 2x1010 electrons each with 250GeV, total energy is 800J.

In Ti speed of sound is ~5000 m/s, so in 337nS travels ~1.6mm (and in 1ps travels .005 microns)

In 337nS, heat travels around 5 microns (document 13)

In 1 ps light travels 300 microns

Beam impact = 1 or 2 bunches

Using Tables and Transient Thermal Analysis

• The following slide contains an animation of a transient thermal analysis. This shows von Mises stress against time.

– The heat was applied as a table using results supplied by Luis Fernandez.

• More work needs to be done optimising the mesh size and time steps etc. but it shows that the methods work together.
