Prabhatians Shared theirConcerns After watching the documentary Prabhat's studentsexpressed their views. They shared their concerns onincreasing trend of addiction and in some cases falsereputation attached to it. Prabhat’s Head Girl NandiniRathi, Asst. Head Girl Suhani Jajoo, Sanika Jumale,Jas Jha and Chinmay Chawda spoke on the occasionbeing exponents of Prabhat.

Akola : Child is the mainfocus and concern of the parentsand the school. Instead of blaminga child as slow learner, it is betterfor parents to understand thedifficulties he or she faces andaccordingly to find out solutions. Therefore, being with the child isrequired than scolding him, asserted Prabhat’s Counseller Dr.Pradeep Awachar.

He was addressing the parentson the core issues “LearningDifficulties of Children’ and‘Keeping our Children Safe’ onSaturday, Oct 27.

Parents do care for theirchildren. But when they find theirwards scoring less marks in exam, they begin to scold them. Theycompare them with other brilliantstudents. Instead of raising theirvoice, they should try tounderstand their hiddendifficulties and find out solutions,

he added. Dr. Awachar disscuseddifferent hidden difficulties likeautism, reading and writingdisabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia) and difficulties inunderstanding maths(dyscalculia).

Parents should create apositive atmosphere for study. They should focus on the strengthand cautiously treat the hidden‘disabilities’. They shouldinteract with them, praise themand avoid their comparison withother students. Otherwise a sense

of neglect is felt by these childrenand they begin to get isolated, hecautioned.

Often parents accuse eachother for their failure, that too, infront of their children, whichperturb the peace and composure.Their childhood is precious andkeep it so by being with them astheir protector and facilitators andnot as dictators, he added.

Each child is unique andblessed with different inherentqualities, which should be foundout. These should be fostered.

Child having difficulties in mathsmay have inclination forlanguages and arts. Their interestshould be given an impetus. Thechildren’s interest in learning canincreased, if they find that theyare getting positive attention, headded.

He cautioned the parents not toput conditions nor to givetemptations to get their studydone. They should remain forsometimes spectator, sometime adirector and a friend.

In the second session,

Counsellor Dr. Awachar focusedon the safety and security of thestudents. He also fetched theparents’ attention to theaggressive nature. He discussedthe increasing addiction of socialmedia, which is also a cause oflearning apathy. These problemsshould be solved finding out thegolden mean, he added. Duringand after the sessions, parentsinteracted with the counsellor andgot solutions to their problems. Alarge number of parents tookbenefit of the two seminars.
