LIBRARY LESSON TIMETABLE Please make sure your child is ready for library with their library bag and books to return in their schoolbags. The timetable for library lessons is set out below:
PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE (PRC) The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) has begun and will finish in late August. The PRC is designed to encourage chil-dren to read from a wide variety of texts and to improve the en-joyment of reading. Children in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 need to read (or have someone read to them) and record 30 books all together. I am reading 15 of these books during library lessons and parents will need to read the other 15 at home. Children in Years 3-6 need to read and record 20 books. These books can be recorded on a PRC form (available from the li-brary) or on the PRC website. Once on the website children can logon using the same username and password they use at school. All the PRC books are labelled in the library with the PRC Identification number on them.
If you are interested in your child doing the PRC and are unsure how to go about it, please contact myself or your class teacher.
During library lessons this term children in Kindergarten are learning how to borrow books and use the library to find the books they are interested in. Stage One are learning about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books as well as how to find those books in the library. Stage Two are looking at the indigenous aspect of their class unit on People and Places. They are finding out how the indigenous people use the environ-ment they live in. Students in Stage Three are developing their skills in finding information. They will be learning how to take notes effectively, write a bibliography, find reliable websites, discuss plagiarism and understand how to critically examine information found.
Happy reading

CONGRATULATIONS! BANNERS were awarded to:
NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS’ DAY
On Monday, 11th March our captains and Mrs Roumanos accom-panied by Mrs Crocker went to the ICC at Darling Harbour for National Young Leaders Day. We had a wonderful experience listening to four amazingly accomplished people, one of the four speakers was Cate Campbell who is an Olympic swimmer and a great speaker and taught us that we need to work hard to accom-plish our dreams and be up to the task. She had 1 silver and 1 gold medal that the leaders got to see and touch and we were most fortunate to take a picture with her. We were inspired by their speeches and will take this opportunity to grow and learn.
Arkin R School Leader
On Monday, 11th March the Warrawee Leadership Team attend-ed the Sydney 2019 National Young Leaders Day at the Interna-tional Convention Centre. We heard a number of inspirational speakers including: Tim Diamond, General Manager Cotton On Foundation, Author Tamsin Janu, Olympian Cate Campbell and Cricketer Holly Ferling. We received a workbook that provided prompts to write about each presentation and we were shown some students that are already making a difference in their com-munity. Each speaker provided a few key messages to us. A highlight of the day was meeting and having a picture taken with Olympian Cate Campbell! This was a great opportunity for which we are thankful and believe future leaders of Warrawee Public School will also enjoy this experience.
