PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The 2017 golf season has come to a close and I thank you the members for a
very good year. We consist of 91 clubs and 1900 members.
The Western team matches were organized among ten clubs with approximately
eighty women participating. We also had a Sunday tournament at LedgeRock
CC that produced a great turnout. This was the first weekend tournament and we
hope to continue with others.
We congratulate Merion Golf Club who won first place in the Philadelphia Cup.
This was their 69th time!
Our Women’s Inter-City team won the Griscom Cup at the Country Club of
Fairfield in Connecticut and the Junior Inter-City team placed second at the
matches at Concord Country Club in Massachusetts. My thanks to the players,
captains and chaperones for all they contributed to the teams.
The following are the Champions for 2017:

My Executive Committee was comprised of a great group of women. Their
talents are varied and their commitment to our organization is very clear. They
want to continue to make our Association the finest in the country.
Laura Hammond completed her first full year as the Executive Director. I could
not have been more pleased with her professionalism and performance. I am
confident she will continue to support the Association to the very best of her
ability.
This is my last year as President. I have been privileged to serve in that capacity
for a total of five years. It has been a wonderful experience and I am grateful for
the many people I have met and friends I have made. I ask you the members to
please support as many tournaments as you can and encourage your friends to
come out and play in our events. I wish you all a great 2018 Season playing the
sport we all enjoy!

2017 ANNUAL MEETING
The One Hundred Twenty-First Annual meeting of The Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia was held at Llanerch Country Club on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Registered for this meeting are delegates from 53 of our 90 Member Clubs. The chair declared a quorum present.
Pat Carbone welcomed the delegates, members and guests to the Annual Meeting, and introduced the Executive Committee and Executive Director, Laura Hammond.
Honorary Member Bobbie Rose and Charlotte Barnhard were recognized. Past presidents, Gail Anderson, Faythe Uminski, Connie Glynn and Anne Sly were introduced.

The financial report was presented by Bonnie Yothers and will be published in the Annual Report which will be on our web site. Total association revenues were $246,921 and expenses totaled $183,170. The net increase in assets was $63,751. An annual review of the 2017 financial statements and tax return will be prepared by the independent CPA firm of Jacobson and Company. The audit of the year ending 2016 was prepared by Jacobson and Company.
The Prize report was presented by Faythe Uminski. Total prized budget was 11,618.33 and total spend was $10,913.08. Total under budget was $705.26. Prizes will be carried over to next year for tournaments that were rained out.
The JW Platt report was presented by Pat Carbone. The Class B, C, and D tournaments were held on July 25, 2017. Unfortunately, our Class A tournament was rained out twice. The players raised $4,260.17. Thanks to all who made a donation despite not playing.
The Tournament report was presented by Joanne Elvert. Tournament participation was down by 3% from previous year. There were 3 rainouts – Mater Et Filia, JW Platt A, Husband/Wife A. The 120th Anniversary Tournament was held at LedgeRock on a Sunday afternoon. It was a great success and fully subscribed. Thank yous went out to all our
volunteers. Next year we will be looking for additional volunteers to help at tournaments.
The Team Match report was presented by Terry Harbaugh. Based on the feedback received after the 4th match, the Team Match Committee took a hard look at the inclement weather policy and made adjustments for future matches. There were 4 team default matches in 2017. Of the 22 challenge matches only 7 were scheduled. Five teams were eligible for super jumps and 2 matches were played. Congratulations to Merion Golf Club for winning the Philadelphia Cup against the defending champ Philadelphia Cricket Club. This is Merion’s 69th time winning the cup. The following Team Match changes were approved by the Executive Committee and the Team Match handbook. 1. Matches will be cancelled whenever the forecast is for widespread heavy rain. 2. All players competing in a team match must complete 7 holes for the matches to count. If all players do not complete at least 7 holes, the matches will be halved and the end result is a tie. If play cannot resume, and all players have played at least 7 holes, the matches shall be scored as they stand.
The Junior report was presented by Bonnie Yothers. This year was the 77th Junior Inter-City matches hosted by the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts. Our girls came in 2nd behind the very strong NY team. The Junior and Junior-Junior Girls Championship was held July 18th through July 21st. We had 15 girls participate in 3 flights.
