VESSELS (Tables 5,6, 7)
In 1967, 7,770 vessels, including commercial fishing vessels, packers, collectors and whalers, operated in the British Columbia fisheries, representing an increase of 335 or 4.5% over 1966 and valued at $88.3 mil $79.4 million the previous year.

Expenditures on engines and installation in 1967 amounted to $1.8 million and on fishing gear $6.9 million.
Information on electronic equipment on primary fishing vessels was reported for the first time to the Department on the application for vessel licences in 1966. In 1967 fishing vessels reported the following equipment2

INVENTORY OF GEAR (Table 8)
The inventory of gear taken at the year-end was valued at $11.6 million, up from $11.4 million in 1966.
