As the period opened the Battalion continued to occupy and improve it's defensive positions and carry out assigned missions as the right MLR Battalion of the center MLR Regiment. The Battalion was responsible for that sector of the MLR extending from CT 01550330 to CT 04250490. On the night of 5-6 May this Battalion was relieved by the 3rd Battalion, 35th Regiment, 25th U. 3. Division, The Battalion closed it 1 s CP and opened a new CP in th·3 vicinity of CS 223935,

On 15 May and 26-87 l!ay the Battalicn participated in the Divinicn Command Poot Exercises in accordance w1th Division TrtlininF Memorandum 8-63 and 10-53,
On 29 May the Battalion departed it 1 s reserve area and occupied an as9igned assembly area in the vicinity of CT 126007, The m1se1on of the Battalion was to be prepared to counterattaCk penetrations within the I Corps ~ector, Plans were made on the assumption that the let Marine Regiment would be assigned ae a re~erie regiment for the 25th U. §; Division. - ·
As the period closed the Battalion remained in i~·e assigned assembly area, The Battalion was carrying on with it's training.

2. In all firing, reaeonable .-re~autions to prevent accidents will be taken. There will be an officer in charge of and responsible for each firing point. It '>'ill be the responsibility of each officer in charge of the firing point to carry out the safety precautions prescribed herein. Pertinent provisions of reference (a) also apply,
3, ~afety limits based upon prescribed danger areas will be determined and defined prior to any live firing, Officers in charge of firing points will be familiar with the lateral safety limits of the firin~ area or range, and the·maximum range at Which the weapon (s) is/are to be firad,
4, Overhead fire is prohibited in all live firing on target ranges or in training areas.
5, Before firing live amrcunition, the danger areas of ranges and training areas will be examined and all unauthorized persons will be excluded, Precautions will be taken to prevent entr~· on the range by all personnel during live firing. 6, Range Guards _will be posted by ths officer in charge of each firing point, Re.nge Guards will be inf<>rmed of the actual safety limits, location of the firing line, maximum range of the weapon being fired, type or firing being conducted, and the name of the officer in charge of the firing point. They will bo posted to prevent entry of persons, mill tal'Y or civilian, into the danger area.
7, Range Guards will be provided with telephonic communication with the firing line, and will at all times remain in the immediate vicinity of the; telephone to report entry of unauthorized personnel into the danger area. In the event the Range Guard is unable to prevent personnel from <::ntc.rinlf the danger area he will immediately notify the firing line to Cease Fire" giving his rsason• for ouch action.

MEDICAL AND D!l:NTAL SUHMARY
During the perlod 1 i'fuy through 31 l<la.y the intensive pre~
ventive disease program for'!ho·.::-J.y established was cloaely adhered
to. In the nev: camp area fJ.y and mosquito control was particul
arly emphaeized. An attempt was made to oil or drain all stand
ing water. The Division Preventive Nedicine Unit provided a TIFA
insecticide sprayer for complete coverage 01~ the Battalion area.
A new gally and meee. area ~as set up, though there was some
d.ifficulity encountered in obtaining sufficient building material~
and screen wire for its constru~tion. In the abnence for a ·
refer which could. not be obtained, a bunker wa<· built to provide
a cave storage area for perishable food..
The meashall, mesr; equipment and meso personnel \~ere in
spected periodically by the l~dical Officer in addition to con
stant supervision by the Corpsman in charge of sanitation,
During this reporting period a change of clothing wan
available at the shower unit, in addition to facilities for waRh
ing an~ treating clothing with miticide solution in the CP area.
The policy of stresE;ing pereonal hygiene and cleanlineo"J
wae continued. Foot innpections were held regularly by Unit
Corpsm~;n.
The company arear were inspected periodically by the Medic
al Officer and the CorpGPan in charge of Eunitation. Unit Corps
men 1n~pectea all heads and urinals daily in order to insure
proper use of chlorinated lime and burning procedures and general
cleanline~g and repair.
.:.11 ne" Corpsmen received a series of indoctrination and
orientation lectures. Subjectr covered by the l·ied!cal Department
perf'onnel were: conduct with the Harines; field. tres.tment of
casualties; evacuation procedures by both routine ch&nnels and
helicopter. 3ubjects covered by Marine instructors were: use of
the pistol, by the Battulicn Armorer; and conduct and re~ponsib
ili tieo of the Corp,man on patrol by a Platoon Coiilluand.er-,

It was 1nveat1gated by the Regimental and Divislon Medical Officers and by tho Division Preventative Hedtcino Unit. but the exact etiology is still undetermined. There were t>Jenty-nine ( 29) nev caEtes of v. D., one h-unO,red twenty-nine ( 129) vll.cinations for C01-.'POX and one hundred twenty-nine (129) inoculations for cholera were given.
